Research Support Specialist

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume): Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Experience with research activities. Specialized training and experience in transcranial perfusion; post-mortem tissue harvest; cryostat sectioning, staining & IHC assays; survival contusion SCI surgery; post-op care; open-field locomotor behaviors; micturition pattern data; cytometry data in anesthetized & unanesthetized (restrained) rats. Preferred Qualifications: Advanced degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Physiology. Brief Description of Duties: The Research Support Specialist will support experimental work that includes: Serial micturition chamber and cytometry bladder function measurement experiments. Process CNS tissue samples from midbrain, brainstem, and lumbosacral sc regions. Assess changes in expression levels of key BDNF-TrkB pathway-mediated cellular-level neuroplasticity related proteins in the processed CNS tissue samples. Duties: Completion of serial micturition chamber and cytometry bladder function measurement experiments, including addition of SCI rats to both the experimental (w-BT) and control (no-BT) groups to ensure adequate statistical power for comparisons; Processing of already acquired CNS tissue samples (and any additional CNS tissue samples obtained as part of #1) from midbrain, brainstem, and lumbosacral sc regions controlling somatic and autonomic LUT function for the histological/IHC (anatomical location/cellular distribution) and immunoblot/WB (quantification of magnitude changes) assays; and (3) Assessment of changes in expression levels of key BDNF-TrkB pathway-mediated cellular-level neuroplasticity related proteins in the processed CNS tissue samples.
