If you’re dedicated to providing high-quality care and eager to grow in a supportive environment, we want to hear from you at the <strong>Otero County Prison in Chaparral, New Mexico!</strong></p>\n<p><strong>Position Summary:</strong> The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant is responsible for&nbsp;providing nursing care of specific patients under the direction of a physician. Follows stablished nursing standards, procedures, and practices and give specific patient care direction to nursing and other staff in compliance with MTC Medical and customer directives.</p>\n<p><strong>Essential responsibilities:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Follow established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.&nbsp;</li>\n <li>Provide direct patient care, evaluate outcomes, consult with specialists as required and adjust treatment processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.&nbsp;</li>\n <li>Perform CPR when necessary.&nbsp;</li>\n <li>Monitor medical condition of patients and report and document changes appropriate to scope of practice.&nbsp;</li>\n <li>Diagnose and treat patients appropriately, exercising independent judgment, initiating an effective course of action.&nbsp;</li>\n <li>Perform daily information rounds and prepare notes on residents assigned to medical housing.</li>\n <li>Perform basic procedures including thermal applications, non-sterile soaks, application of dressings and casts.&nbsp;</li>\n <li>Order diagnostic and therapeutic services and assess efficiency, documenting results and making needed changes.&nbsp;</li>\n <li>Consult with facility medical director in a collaborative and cooperative relationship.&nbsp;</li>\n <li>Maintain accurate and comprehensive charting on patient medical records.&nbsp;</li>\n <li>Enhance professional development through participation in educational programs, in-service and workshops.</li>\n <li>Attend scheduled staff meetings; promote communications and proper flow of relevant information in the medical unit.&nbsp;</li>\n <li>Utilize established corporate, facility and corrections policies and procedures in making decisions, while using sound independent judgment in performing the duties of the position.&nbsp;</li>\n <li>Implement basic cost containment and utilization management for patient care and facility operations.&nbsp;</li>\n <li>Maintain security and confidentiality of all patient medical records; observes applicable HIPAA rules.</li>\n <li>Closely monitor all potential catastrophic illnesses.&nbsp;</li>\n <li>Comply with all applicable pharmacy regulations, especially those covering controlled substances.</li>\n <li>Facilitate, where applicable, NCCHC/ACA accreditation of the medical program by providing the required level of efficiency and approved appropriate medical services.</li>\n <li>Comply with requirements of applicable regulations, laws, policies, standards and contracts.</li>\n <li>Perform rescue functions at accidents, emergencies and disasters to include administering basic emergency medical aid, physically removing people away from dangerous situations, and securing and evacuating people from confined areas.</li>\n <li>Maintain equipment and supplies.</li>\n <li>Requires long periods of walking and standing.</li>\n <li>Regular attendance required.</li>\n <li>Promote the development of positive social skills among staff and detainees through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.&nbsp;</li>\n <li>Maintain accountability of residents and property; adhere to safety practices.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Education and Experience Requirements:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Graduation from an accredited program and current licensure in the state of New Mexico as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant required.&nbsp;</li>\n <li>All education related to the licensure is required. Any additional licenses or certifications (i.e. DEA registration) required.&nbsp;</li>\n <li>Two (2) to five (5) years experience is recommended, preferably in the correctional environment or emergency medicine.&nbsp;</li>\n <li>Current CPR certification required.&nbsp;</li>\n <li>Valid driver’s license in the state of New Mexico or Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>Management &amp; Training Corporation (MTC) is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
