PROGRAM: Goodacre Place Supportive Housing POSITION: Support Worker JOB TYPE : Regular Full-time JOB POSTING #:   JP-021-2026 WORK HOURS AND SCHEDULE: Shifts are typically 8 hours per day and 36 hours per week. The regular schedule consists of day shifts from Tuesday through Saturday from 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM. DATE POSTED: June 1, 2026 CLOSING DATE:  We will conduct rolling interviews and may close this posting if suitable candidates are found. Early submissions are recommended. This posting will close in two weeks, on June 15, 2026. START DATE:  As soon as possible SALARY RANGE: $25.00 per hour- Days and Afternoon Shift, $25.50 per hour- Evening Shift NO: OF POSITIONS: 01 PROGRAM SUMMARY: Goodacre Place Supportive Housing is a 22 unit supported housing project offering long-term tenancies and short-term emergency stays for people who are experiencing homelessness or who are at risk of becoming homeless. Goodacre Place Supportive Housing is developed in partnership with BC Housing, the Town of Smithers and Smithers Community Services Association. Together we provide program participants with affordable housing, meals, case planning, social and recreation activities, and other training and workshops.  The units are bachelor style and designed for single occupancy, two are wheelchair accessible. To be considered eligible for supportive housing an individual must be experiencing homelessness or be at risk of becoming homeless. POSITION SUMMARY: The Support Worker provides direct support to tenants/program participants living in supportive housing and shelter environments. This role focuses on harm reduction, crisis de-escalation, and facilitating access to services that improve residents’ health, safety, and wellbeing. Support Workers ensure safe program spaces, model respectful and inclusive behavior, and contribute to maintaining a supportive and welcoming environment. They collaborate with the Site Manager to implement care plans and uphold organizational standards in alignment with BC Housing guidelines. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports To:  Site Manager, Goodacre Place Direct Reports: None RESPONSIBILITIES: Harm Reduction and Daily Living Support – Provides harm reduction-based supports, including distribution and recovery of supplies, and assists and coaches’ tenants with daily living activities such as cleaning, decluttering, laundry, and maintaining safe and healthy living environments. Encourages tenants to participate in maintaining their rooms and shared spaces to foster responsibility and community engagement. Case Planning and Individualized Support – Conduct case planning and tenant needs assessments under the guidance of the Site Manager, supporting the implementation of care plans that promote housing stability, health, and independence. Appointments, Benefits, and Community Access – Facilitates access to local health, substance use, and social services by connecting tenants to community resources and supporting participation in education, employment, and life skills programs. Assists tenants in obtaining income and disability benefits, pensions, government identification, and banking services as appropriate. Tenant Relationships and Crisis De-escalation – Builds positive and respectful relationships with tenants, models inclusive and professional communication, and uses trauma-informed, non-violent approaches to de-escalate crisis situations. Monitors program spaces, applies violence prevention and emergency protocols, conducts wellness checks, and responds to critical incidents in accordance with policy. Facility Operations, Meal Service, and Safety – Assists with front desk and site security duties including tenant check-ins, access monitoring, and implementation of safety measures. Supports meal preparation and service (cold breakfast and hot dinner), and assists in cleaning resident rooms, short-stay rooms, kitchens, common areas, staff-only spaces, laundry, and facility grounds as required. Adheres to all health, safety, and emergency procedures, including universal precautions, and collaborates with supervisors and the leadership team to maintain shared safety and care plans. Documentation and Reporting – Ensures accurate and timely documentation in all record management systems, including daily logs, incident reports, and resident files, in accordance with BC Housing and organizational standards. Maintains confidentiality and accuracy in all communications and record-keeping. Collaboration and Team Support – Works under the guidance and direction of the Site Manager to implement site policies, support daily operations, and contribute to the overall safety and wellbeing of the housing community. Attends staff meetings and actively participates in discussions, presentations, and minute taking as required. Professional Development and Other Duties – Participates in training, seminars, and professional development as required, and performs other related duties or special assignments as directed by the Site Manager to support program objectives and organizational goals. QUALIFICATIONS: Some training and experience in a similar position or a combination of relevant training and experience an asset. Knowledge of harm reduction principles, crisis de-escalation strategies, and violence prevention protocols. Knowledge of and/or experience with people who are experiencing homelessness and homelessness related issues. Knowledge and experience working with trauma and crisis management. Knowledge of First Nations culture an asset. Holds or willing to obtain First aid & CPR, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Naloxone training, Food Safe. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Proficient computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and general computer literacy for documentation, email communication, and data entry. Able to effectively engage with multi-barrier adult clients; employ crisis intervention skills and active listening skills. Ability to support tenants with daily living skills, including cleaning, and maintaining safe program spaces. Skilled in building respectful, inclusive, and supportive relationships with residents. Ability to monitor program spaces and respond appropriately to health, safety, or behavioral concerns. Strong communication skills to interact effectively with tenants, staff, and external service providers. Teamwork skills to follow guidance and direction from the Site Manager, and collaborate with colleagues. Physical ability to perform facility tasks, including room setup, cleaning, and lifting up to 10 kg. Apply solid personal boundaries and limit setting.
