POSITION DESCRIPTION Position Title: Orientation and Mobility Specialist, PRN Reports To: Director of Program Services Department/Location: Oklahoma City Low Vision Clinic / 4301 North Classen OKC, OK 73118 Status: PRN as Needed, Non-Exempt​ NewView's Mission: We empower individuals who are blind or have low vision, maximizing their opportunities for independence through all stages of life. NewView Values: Commitment to Empower Driven by Excellence Compassion is Key Leaders who Inspire Position Summary: Responsible for providing orientation and mobility training and services to consumers. Essential duties and responsibilities(3-5 core functions representing 80% of time spent): Provides individual client evaluation and instruction in all aspects of orientation and mobility at the client home, rehab office or other areas within the state of Oklahoma. Maintains service files of all orientation and mobility clients with pertinent information/documentation regarding services rendered, planning and client progress, and updates central file with said information. Maintains follow-up process for active and inactive clients in orientation and mobility. Provides public education on blindness issues and all aspects of NVO services. Maintains contact with other community and state direct services agencies. Assist in the provision of social services as needed. Works as a team member with other professionals, staff, and volunteers. Performs additional duties as assigned by the Rehabilitation Director. Must wear all the protective equipment required by the department. Must follow all company policies and procedures including departmental safety policies. Performs all other duties as assigned. Qualifications (Minimum education, experience, training, licensure, certification): Bachelor’s Degree in Orientation and Mobility and ACVREP certified. Preference will be given to candidates with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in Orientation and Mobility. Must have working knowledge of all aids and appliances commonly used in general mobility training of the blind and vision impaired. Must possess knowledge of electronic travel aids (ETA’S). Basic computer database and word processing knowledge and experience. Must obtain a valid Oklahoma State Driver’s license. Physical requirements of the job: Light Work – Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.
