Description

An award-winning design firm and voted OC’s best place to work for consecutive years, we are a creative powerhouse of architects and designers, collaborators, and communicators—experts in the business of transforming open space into elevated, extraordinary human experiences. We are seeking a local Intermediate Designer who can work from our Newport Beach office in alignment with our hybrid schedule. This role is ideal for a designer who is confident developing design concepts and documentation while working closely with project managers, senior designers, and consultants. The ideal candidate is curious, organized, and passionate about delivering creative solutions that align with client goals, budgets, and project timelines. This position offers the opportunity to lead smaller projects, support complex projects, and grow within a collaborative design studio. Key Responsibilities: Develop creative design concepts, finish palettes, and presentation materials for client and internal reviews. Produce space plans, finish plans, lighting plans, and millwork documentation for projects. Assist project teams with preliminary pricing plans and preparation of construction drawings. Prepare and coordinate complete sets of basic tenant improvement construction documents. Support Senior Designers on complex projects while leading design efforts on smaller projects. Conduct site field verifications and incorporate existing conditions into Revit or CAD drawings. Develop rendered plans, elevations, and presentation decks that clearly communicate design intent. Research, specify, and document materials, finishes, lighting fixtures, and furnishings. Collaborate with project teams, consultants, contractors, and vendors throughout project phases. Participate in client and construction meetings and assist with presenting design concepts. Review and assist with submittals, shop drawings, and RFIs in coordination with the Project Manager. Maintain accurate project documentation, meeting notes, and project information in internal systems. Manage assigned tasks within project schedules and Estimated Project Hours. Organize and manage multiple project priorities while maintaining quality and attention to detail. Support furniture budgets, specifications, presentations, and bid documentation as needed. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or related field. 3–6 years of professional interior design experience preferred. Proficiency in Revit, SketchUp, Photoshop, InDesign, and Lumion or Enscape. Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Illustrator, and Bluebeam is a plus. Strong space planning, design development, and problem-solving skills. Working knowledge of ADA and exiting codes and general construction documentation. Experience preparing construction documents for tenant improvement projects. Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present ideas clearly. Ability to manage portions of projects independently while collaborating with a larger team. Organized and adaptable with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities. Life at Hendy Hendy has been consistently recognized as a Best Place to Work and is proud to be an employee-owned company through our ESOP. We are committed to creating a best-in-class work environment where team members enjoy their work, feel invested in the firm’s success, and maintain a healthy work-life balance. We support this through flexible hybrid work opportunities and a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), life, and disability insurance. As a part of Hendy’s commitment to professional licensing growth, we offer reimbursement for certain professional licenses and associated renewals, as well as exam fees. We view our professional development programs as strategic investments for positive long-term continued success.
