RNA interference, or RNAi, is a mechanism present in living cells that inhibits the expression of a specific gene, thereby affecting the production of a specific protein. Arrowhead’s RNAi-based therapeutics leverage this natural pathway of gene silencing. Arrowhead is focused on developing innovative drugs for diseases with a genetic basis, typically characterized by the overproduction of one or more proteins that are involved with disease. The depth and versatility of our RNAi technologies enables us to potentially address conditions in virtually any therapeutic area and pursue disease targets that are not otherwise addressable by small molecules and biologics. Arrowhead is leading the field in bringing the promise of RNAi to address diseases outside of the liver, and our clinical pipeline includes disease targets in the liver and lung with a promising pipeline of preclinical candidates. Arrowhead’s corporate headquarters is in Pasadena, CA with research and development teams in Madison, WI & San Diego, CA, and a state of the art manufacturing facility in Verona, WI. The Position Arrowhead is seeking a highly motivated biologist to join our growing CNS in vivo team within the Research Department at our San Diego site. The successful candidate will be joining a team dedicated to discovering, developing and translating novel drug targets. Responsibilities Perform in vivo studies to facilitate drug discovery and development in various diseases Establish new preclinical animal disease models Perform animal behavior studies as needed Coordinate processes across departments and with outside vendors to enable efficient study execution and data generation Read and apply relevant scientific literature to projects to troubleshoot and solve problems Present research findings to project teams and prepare technical reports Maintain a high level of productivity in the lab and perform critical experiments Requirements BS and/or MS in biology related field 2+ years of extensive experience with small animal handling Excellent record keeping and experience in data analysis, graphing and presentation Ability to work independently and to handle multiple projects and deadlines Demonstrated innovation, creativity and resilience in problem solving Excellent oral and written communication skills Self-motivated team player with the ability to thrive in a fast paced, multi-disciplinary, matrixed environment Preferred Experience with CNS surgeries and/or drug administration locally in CNS Experience with in vivo epilepsy and/or migraine models Preclinical disease model development in the context of drug discovery California pay range $65,000 — $75,000 USD Arrowhead provides competitive salaries and an excellent benefit package.
