Description

Overview The Director of CARD Speech-Language Pathology Outpatient Clinics and Achievements is responsible for the operation of clinical, administrative, training and research, and program development activities within the Center for Autism & Related Disorders (CARD) Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) Outpatient Clinics and Achievements programs. The incumbent will work with the CARD SLP managers to maintain responsibility for daily operations, implementing, coordinating and supervising the clinical service aspects of the department’s SLP Outpatient Clinics and Achievements programs across all locations. The incumbent will coordinate with the managers and senior SLP staff in establishing and implementing CARD SLP program policies, procedures, standards, and goals; consult and act as a liaison within CARD and externally. This position will collaborate and coordinate with the Speech-Language Pathology discipline director related to leveraging knowledge across the Institute. The incumbent will provide direct patient care by assessing and treating children with communication (i.e., speech/language) and oral motor disorders. Responsibilities Establish the scope of Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) services within the Center for Autism & Related Disorders (CARD) interdisciplinary context in collaboration with the department’s Executive Director. Provide oversight to ensure quality and effectiveness of clinical services while overseeing all discipline-related matters for CARD’s SLP services across all locations (e.g., the scope of service, documentation, billing, coding, standards of care, ethical practice, etc.). Work in collaboration with SLP Managers or designees to oversee staff licensure, competencies, recruitment, hiring, training, retention, supervision, and performance evaluation of CARD SLP and SLP-A clinical staff. Provide direction to the CARD SLP Managers or designees regarding the day-to-day functions related to clinical and patient care issues inclusive of monitoring the quality of clinical services in SLP and developing plans for addressing any identified concerns. Conduct functional communication (i.e., speech/language), oral motor, and Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) assessments and treatment, with consideration to patients’ and families’ needs and interests. Services provided will include speech and language evaluations, treatment and parent training. In conjunction with the SLP managers and the Director of Clinical Operations, prepare and monitor the annual SLP budget; and policies and procedures related to clinical functions and productivity standards. Assure program compliance with regulatory functions including The Joint Commission, Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), and departmental Quality Improvement and Innovation activities. Serve as an advocate and liaison for SLP and Achievements services with the department’s Executive Director and Director of Clinical Operations. Participate in and/or leads appropriate departmental and external meetings/committees. Monitor and maintain the condition of program facilities and equipment in a manner that promotes efficiency, health, comfort, and safety and is consistent with the Institute’s policies. Promote and participate in interdisciplinary training as an individual and/or as a program lead within and outside the Institute. Oversee the development and implementation of training and continuing education plans for the clinical fellows, SLPs, SLP-As, student SLP interns, and other staff in the department’s Outpatient Clinic and Achievements programs. Promote, develop, and participate in training activities at the local, state, national and international levels, including the development and dissemination of curricula, workshops, poster and paper presentations, scholarly publications, book chapters, monographs, and textbooks. Promote and participate in both discipline and interdisciplinary research both as an individual and as a program lead. In conjunction with SLP and Achievements managers, oversee implementation and monitoring of evidenced-based decision-making and practices across CARD locations. Create effective and efficient data collection systems and analysis of clinical services. Promote and assist staff with identifying opportunities for clinical research and developing protocols to evaluate the effectiveness of clinical practices. Engages in ongoing alignment and collaboration with the discipline Director of Speech-Language Pathology and Assistive Technology. Qualifications Must possess and maintain Maryland State Licensure in Speech-Language Pathology. Must hold and maintain the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) granted by the American Speech Language and Hearing Association (ASHA). Current Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification. EDUCATION: PhD or equivalent in Speech-Language Pathology (or related area) is preferred. EXPERIENCE: Minimum of five years’ experience as a licensed Speech Language Pathologist required.
