Description

Overview Provides executive leadership for the Corporation’s long-term planning, finance, treasury, risk management, utility rate regulation, and capital planning functions, ensuring sound governance, regulatory compliance, and alignment with corporate and departmental finance and administrative policies, procedures, and manuals. As a member of Senior Leadership, the CFO drives the development and execution of corporate objectives, financial plans, and strategies to enable the effective delivery of programs and services consistent with the Corporation’s vision, mission, and mandate. Under the direction of the President & CEO, the CFO provides executive leadership for the Finance, Risk Management, and Capital Planning functions and ensures the Corporation’s long-term strategic plan aligns with shareholder priorities and direction. The CFO is accountable for communicating and embedding the Corporation’s Mission, Vision, and Values across the division, and for leading divisional staff in achieving corporate goals and objectives. This role provides strategic oversight, coaching, and performance leadership to direct reports through clear objective-setting, delegation, and accountability for results. The position requires a high degree of autonomy, sound judgment, confidentiality, executive presence, and strategic business acumen. Responsibilities Always works safely, adheres to all aspects of the NTPC Health, Safety and Environmental programs, comply with all rules and regulations and continually practice health and safety while performing any duties. Maintain continuous lines of communication, keeping the CEO informed of all critical issues. Leads the Corporation’s strategic planning and performance monitoring processes, working with the Board of Directors and the Audit and Risk Committee to update the strategic plan, align annual objectives with long-term priorities, and track organizational performance. In collaboration with the Chief Services Officer and Finance staff coordinates the development and implementation of short and long-term continuous improvement strategies, budgets, work plans, policies, and procedures to ensure efficient and cost-effective Finance programs and services which align with corporate business goals and objectives and support a strong internal control environment within NTPC. Oversees the annual budgeting process for the Corporation, including planning, scheduling, and enforcing deadlines and ensuring a collaborative effort with operations and corporate service Management. Establishes and maintains corporate financial policies, monitoring, and reporting procedures to facilitate the effective administration and control of expenditures across the corporation to ensure the achievement of corporate finance objectives and provides advice and assistance in interpreting and applying finance regulations, policies, and procedures. Responsible for the Capital Planning process as a member of the Capital Governance Committee and the CIPEx process to identify, select and deliver capital projects. Advises and makes presentations to the Corporation Board of Directors regularly to report on the financial affairs of the Corporation and to provide professional advice regarding the achievement and status of finance programs and strategies. Supports the development of Corporate Key Performance Indicators, by providing advice and guidance, to business areas for the enhancement of performance measures and business metrics to ensure they are meaningful and consistent with the strategic direction of the business plans. Independently, and/or in conjunction with the President and CEO and other NTPC Management, appears as lead witness or witness before government committees and regulatory agencies, participates in press conferences, and represents the Corporation at community meetings and functions to ensure the effective communication of corporate finance strategies and to respond to the concerns of customers and shareholders on behalf of the Corporation. Directs the planning and administration of Finance Division operating and capital budgets and ensures that effective procedures are in place to monitor and control department finances and compliance to corporate financial policies and procedures. Actively participates in identification and analysis of new business opportunities and advises on position papers and strategies for successful new business acquisitions. Participates in negotiation of new business opportunities. Qualifications CPA designation, MBA, relevant postgraduate degree with a minimum of ten (10) years related financial management experience. Equivalencies may be considered. Ten (10) years of extensive management and supervisory experience. An understanding of financial management as applied in a utility environment is considered an asset. Excellent managerial and team building skills to direct department activities and work effectively with peer executive managers and regional managers in achieving department and corporate objectives. Excellent oral and written communication skills, presentation and negotiating skills to represent the corporation in quasi-judicial hearings and public forums. Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills to provide direction and guidance to finance work groups, build consensus, and motivate staff across the organization as a member of the senior leadership team. Requires the ability to handle confrontational situations in the government, corporate and public sectors and to defend the actions and programs of the Corporation. Requires sensitivity to the political, legal, safety and environmental concerns facing the Corporation. Must have the ability to learn quickly and adapt to new situations. Good analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills. Must be proficient using the Microsoft Office Suite of programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Able to lead and work effectively in a fast-paced and constantly evolving environment. A full valid Class 5 driver’s license. The successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory criminal records check. Salary for this position ranges from $105.63/hr. to $132.04/hr. plus a location and accommodation allowance of approximately $8,023 per annum. We offer a comprehensive benefits package which includes health and dental benefits, long-term disability, life insurance, paid sick days and a defined benefits pension plan. This position is located in Hay River, NT and does require a successful candidate to reside/relocate here. Relocation assistance may be provided.
