Description

Duties: Under the supervision of the Buildings Supervisor of School Facilities & Energy Conservation management and under the direct supervision of an employee of higher grade performs custodial duties such as clean all reachable walls and HVAC diffusers and ceiling fans and all reachable window glass inside and outside schools, doors, etc.; complete cleaning of all walls and fixtures; clean all stairwells; shampoo all carpets; sweep, wash, strip, wax and buff all floors; dust; change light bulbs; police grounds; sweep walks; cut lawns; remove snow and ice; care for custodial equipment; empty wastebaskets; remove trash; order custodial supplies; make minor repairs to buildings, equipment, heating, lighting, air conditioning, ventilation and plumbing systems. Perform other similar duties as assigned. This is a safety sensitive position. Qualifications: Must have physical ability to do the work. Must possess a valid Massachusetts Class D driver’s license. Work environment: Work requires agility and physical strength, ability to function in close quarters, and is subject to noise, vibrations, hazards and atmospheric conditions including fumes, dust and air contaminants. Some exposure to outside environmental conditions in performance of job duties, including wet, hot and cold weather. Physical and Mental Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the position’s essential functions. Physical skills Position requires standing/walking most of the day, lifting/carrying up to 75 lbs, pushing/pulling, climbing, reaching, twisting, turning, sweeping, kneeling, bending, crouching and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position requires near and far vision and acute hearing, the ability to maintain physical exertion for long periods of time, climb ladders and stairs, and operate hand and power tools and equipment.
