Description Founded by the Channell family in 1922, Channell is a global designer, manufacturer, and seller of outside plant infrastructure equipment. The markets served by Channell are Telecommunications, Municipalities, Internet Service Providers, Wireless, Water, Power, and CATV, among others. Major product lines include a complete line of thermoplastic and metal fabricated enclosures, fiber optic cable connection and management systems, and high-performance below-grade vaults. JOB SUMMARY: The Tool Technician is responsible for the repair, reconditioning and preventative maintenance of structural foam, injection molding, blow molding, and sheet molding compression (SMC) tooling. Work closely with other technicians, managers, supervisors, and operators in problem-solving and troubleshooting repairs and adjustments. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Ensure on-time clocking and reporting to the workstation. Operate equipment such as mills, lathes, saws, grinders, drilling machines, and mig/tig welders to repair injection mold equipment die. Execute modifications or repairs of aluminum and steel molds within specified time schedules and as needed during emergencies. Disassemble, clean, evaluate, repair, and maintain molds of various sizes and configurations. Use blueprints, written specifications, shop mathematics, charts, and tables. Use repair tools such as punches, files, bench stones, and other abrasive products in working with high precision, high-cost components as necessary to repair molds. Set up and use milling machine as required to rework damaged areas of molds and perform other mold modifications of a complex nature. Remove, refit, and replace guide pins and bushings, as necessary. Maintain and improve existing molds; rapid prototyping and mold production as needed. Organize modifications and repairs to molds and provide all information required to production departments to allow for scheduling and completion of work. Ensure all production tools meet standards. Keep an open issue list for each tool, including available work orders for preventive maintenance, repairs, and modifications. Assist the molding department by troubleshooting tooling-related failures. Communicate with the Manager to maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation regarding mold maintenance, repair, and parts inventory. Efficiently perform all workers and efficiently use materials, tool room supplies, and inventories. Maintain a high departmental standard of cleanliness in the Injection Molding and Maintenance/Tooling areas. Display professional conduct when dealing with all departments and staff members. Comply with OSHA Safety and Health rules and lockout/tag-out procedures. Perform repetitive tasks according to specifications using hand tools, power tools, and production machines. Increase productivity and efficiency without compromising quality. Complete other duties and special projects as assigned. KNOWLEDGE OF: Strong Background in Plastic Injection Mold Tooling. Basic Plastic Injection Molding processing experience. Structural foam Mold experience is a plus. SMC mold experience a plus. Blow mold experience a plus. ABILITY TO/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS: Read and understand written assembly instructions. Understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS) ISO sections about the position. Good housekeeping and 5s standards. Qualifications Associates Degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or Journeyman Mod Maker credentials and technical school preferred. High School degree (or equivalent experience) with 6+ years of related work experience five5 years’ experience with progressive dies and tools. Ability to work with Auto CAD is a plus but not required. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to be self-directed to solve issues and work independently. Display a high level of initiative and effort. Ability to be creative and innovative to experiment with new ideas, methodologies, and procedures. Ability to interact effectively with other technicians, employees, and vendors. Ability to diligently attend to details and pursue quality in accomplishing tasks. Capacity to work overtime as needed. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: The physical demands and working conditions requirements indicated below are examples of the orders to carry out the essential job functions. Physical Demands: Standing, sitting, and walking (up to continuously); bend/stoop, twist neck and torso (frequently); reach, hold, grasp, push, pull, lift/carry raw material, finished product, tools, and machinery up to 30 / 50 pounds (frequently); use seeing, hearing, and speaking. Working Conditions: Work indoors and outdoors; exposure to temperatures commensurate with outdoor seasonal temperatures.
