          "text": "<p>Timmons Group is seeking a <strong>Land Development Practice Leader</strong> to <strong>lead, grow, and shape</strong> our Land Development presence in the Washington, DC market. This is a senior leadership opportunity for an entrepreneurial engineer who wants to <strong>build an office, develop talent, and drive business growth</strong>, while remaining connected to technical excellence and client delivery.</p><p>This role is ideal for a proven <strong>seller–doer and people leader</strong> who is energized by building relationships, winning work, and creating a high-performing engineering team. You will have meaningful influence over strategy, staffing, culture, and client engagement while partnering with firm leadership to expand our footprint in a competitive and dynamic market.</p><p>As the Land Development Practice Leader, you will serve as both a <strong>business leader and technical authority</strong>, with responsibility for growing the practice and mentoring the next generation of engineers.</p><p><strong>Essential Duties and Responsibilities</strong>&#xa0;of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:</p><p><strong>Practice &amp; Business Leadership</strong></p><ul><li>Lead the growth and strategic direction of the Land Development practice in the Washington, DC office</li><li>Develop and expand client relationships; serve as a trusted advisor to public and private sector clients</li><li>Drive business development efforts, including market positioning, pursuit strategy, and proposal leadership</li><li>Maintain ownership of project financial performance, including scope, schedule, staffing, and profitability</li><li>Collaborate with firm leadership to identify growth opportunities and support long-term office expansion</li></ul><p><strong>Team &amp; Culture Building</strong></p><ul><li>Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of engineers and designers</li><li>Provide coaching and technical oversight while fostering a collaborative, accountable, and inclusive culture</li><li>Set clear expectations and support career development for staff at multiple experience levels</li></ul><p><strong>Technical &amp; Project Leadership</strong></p><ul><li>Provide technical guidance and quality oversight on land development projects</li><li>Support design efforts using Civil 3D and related modeling tools as needed</li><li>Ensure projects comply with state and local jurisdictional requirements</li><li>Oversee preparation of plans, specifications, reports, and cost estimates</li><li>Maintain strong coordination between clients, internal teams, and external stakeholders</li></ul><p><strong>Skills/Requirements</strong>&#xa0;of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:</p><ul><li>Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering (or related discipline)</li><li>Professional Engineer (P.E.) or similar licensure preferred</li><li>15+ years of experience in civil engineering with a strong background in public or private&#xa0;land development</li><li>Demonstrated success in <strong>business development, client management, and team leadership</strong></li><li>Strong understanding of project accounting, budgeting, and multi-project resource management</li><li>Experience supervising and mentoring technical staff</li><li>Working knowledge of standard engineering and office software</li><li>A leadership mindset marked by professionalism, accountability, and collaboration</li></ul><p><strong>Why This Role?</strong></p><p>This is more than a project management position—it’s an opportunity to <strong>lead an engineering practice</strong>, influence office growth, and leave a lasting mark on a major market.
