Description

Develops clinical sites that support the educational needs of students.  The Associate Dean for Clinics (ADC) is responsible for directing, operating, and creating the clinical program at the University of Pikeville Kentucky College of Optometry (KYCO). The ADC ensures that the central educational training facility and the remote clinical sites are operating within current practice and business standards.  The Associate Dean for Clinics advises the Dean on all aspects of the optometry clinical network and care delivery system.  The ADC shall supervise the optometric staff and assure that the basic goals and objectives of the vision and visual health care program as required by the funding agencies (University, Federal, State and Local) as well as licensing and certificates and regulatory requirements are maintained, and high-quality standards of clinical care are achieved. The ADC will stay abreast of emerging trends in health care and all legislation impacting the profession of optometry. Responsibilities Administration: Serves the Administrative Team Administration. Participate in budget planning for all clinics. Advise in the purchases and maintenance of equipment. Advise in the development of new clinical programs. Participate in personnel matters related to the clinical and ancillary staff:  determining staff plan, recruitment. and hiring, disciplinary actions and terminations, incentive system and motivation efforts. Keep the Administrative Team informed of legal issues and legal trends in health and vision care malpractice and malpractice prevention (risk management). Maintains an active QA program. Supervise the Assistant Dean for Clinical Education and Curriculum. Faculty Support: Development of current practice/clinical protocols for all clinical faculty. Partner with the Assistant Dean for Clinical Education and Curriculum to ensure that our clinics are meeting the educational goals of the college. Maintain a working knowledge of associated health professions, Ophthalmology, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Neurology. Personnel policies and procedures. Development of clinical leadership at all clinical training sites. Initiate concepts of quality assurance with the committees of quality assurance at the training site. Keep current with emerging trends in health and vision care - economic and professional. Responsible for educational facilities development and maintenance. Arrange and conduct regular meetings of professional staff to communicate educational and program policies and concerns. Meet regularly with the Dean to present clinical staff's ideas and concerns. Represent the clinical staff in the formation and evaluation of project goals and budgets. Communicate executive, educational and administrative goals, objectives, policies and procedures, and concerns to clinical staff. Student Support: Ensures that students are receiving balanced clinical opportunities at the KYCO clinics. Develops clinical sites that support the educational needs of students. Clinical Supervision: Supervise clinical staff and interact with all clinic leadership from UPIKE. Approve continuing professional education, in-service training and orientation of clinical staff and faculty. Arrange and conduct regular clinical staff meetings. Qualifications: A Doctor of Optometry Degree (O.D.) with a minimum of five years of experience in health professions education; advanced training in education, assessment, or instructional technology preferred. Optometrist applicants must be eligible for licensure in the state of Kentucky with expanded therapeutics certification and are expected to participate in patient care services. Demonstrated success in curriculum development, educational innovation, and outcomes based assessment. Familiarity with NBEO exam structure and contemporary trends in health professions education. Experience with AI tools and educational technology in instructional settings. The University of Pikeville offers a competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
