Job Description – Safety Manager Overview: Apex Service Partners, LLC, a leading residential home services company, is seeking a Safety Manager to manage and support its safety programs across the U.S. This role involves close collaboration with operations, legal, claims, employee services, fleet and finance teams to help align with the company’s growth and operational needs, while ensuring compliance and safety. The Safety Manager reports to the SVP of Operations Support and plays a key role in our safety programs and safety culture. Our industry has massive upside; Apex even given our growth has single digit market share and is already the industry leader. Role Overview: The Safety Manager will oversee the health and safety of 12,000 service professionals across the U.S. This role is responsible for designing and scaling safety programs specifically for residential environments, ensuring every technician—from HVAC, Electrical to Plumbing—operates under the highest standards of protection and regulatory compliance. Key Responsibilities Program Development & Scaling: Create and implement uniform, multi-state safety policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for HVAC, plumbing, and electrical trades. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure total compliance with federal and state OSHA regulations, DOT requirements for the service fleet, and local trade-specific codes. Incident Investigation: work with Claims department on root cause analysis (RCA) for all major accidents and "near misses," implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence across the organization. Training & Education: Oversee the delivery of trade-specific safety training, including electrical arc flash (NFPA 70E), ladder safety, proper lifting, confined space entry, PPE use, Dig Safe, and hazardous material handling. Safety Audits: Manage a national audit program to inspect residential jobsites and service vehicles, identifying and mitigating latent hazards. Culture Leadership: Foster a "safety first" mindset through awareness campaigns, recognition programs, and open communication channels for field staff. Fleet Telematics & Dashcam - h ands-on experience with Geotab telematics & dashcams to monitor real-time driver behavior, including harsh braking, speeding, and seatbelt usage. Utilize driver safety scores to develop personalized coaching plans and gamified safety competition Candidate Profile Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related engineering field preferred. Experience: 4+ years of safety leadership experience, preferably in large-scale residential service, construction, or a multi-site utility environment preferred. Certifications: Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Health and Safety Technician (CHST) preferred. Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of OSHA 1910 (General Industry) and 1926 (Construction), as well as NFPA electrical standards preferred. Performance Metrics (KPIs) Leading Indicators (Proactive): Training Completion Rate: Goal of 90%+ for all required safety modules. Audit Frequency & Close-out: Number of site audits performed and the speed of resolving identified hazards. Near Miss Reporting: An increase in reported near misses (indicating a strong, non-punitive safety culture). Lagging Indicators (Reactive): Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR): Target reduction in year-over-year recordable injuries. DART Rate: Reducing Days Away, Restricted, or Transferred to maintain operational continuity. Personal Characteristics Strategic & Resolute: Able to prioritize employee life over deadlines or budgets, remaining firm in the face of operational pressure. Exceptional Communicator: Capable of translating complex regulations into simple, actionable steps for field technicians with diverse backgrounds. Empathetic Listener: Actively seeks feedback from technicians to understand real-world hazards that may not be captured in a manual. Stress Resilient: Maintains a calm, decisive presence during emergencies or critical incident investigations.
