Job Description
POSITION PURPOSE
To ensure that product is being inspected for quality including, size, gauge and roll formation quality prior to shipment to customer. Accurate packaging and data collection for each order. Each employee considers food safety and consumer safety while preforming work. Participates in GMP and food safety training. Follows GMP policy. Reports all food safety concerns with urgency.
Pay: 19/hr - 23/hr
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
FUNCTIONS:
Under the direction of the Lead Operator and/or Production Supervisor, the Extrusion Operator Assistant will ensure that product is being inspected prior to shipment to customers. This position is backed up by other Operator Assistants or by a Lead Operator.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
QUALITY CONTROL:
Responsible for checking job ticket extrusion instructions
Noting any size or gauge tolerances
Noting any special packaging or labeling instructions
Checking product to ensure it conforms to job ticket specs.
Verifying size
Completing “Size” Chart (not S.P.C. Charts)
Must understand importance of size and gauge checks
Verifying that gussets are set up correctly
Blocking
Gels, blending problems
Dirty Die Face
Check product for treat
PACKAGING:
Responsible for proper packaging of products
Must obtain proper packaging information from job ticket
Should know pallet and cradle sizes
Need to know location of packaging supplies
Product must be packaged in a neat and professional manner
DATA COLLECTION:
Responsible for entering production in computer
Must understand importance of correct data entries
Must weigh every other roll & notify operator if not correct
Roll stock – all rolls must be weighed
Must track all scrap and make entries in data collection
Responsible for correct job start and stop times
LABELING:
Must obtain proper labeling information from job ticket
Responsible for printing labels
Labeling must be done correctly and neatly
Labels should be centered and lined up on the box
Must ensure that pallet/bin labels are correctly completed
Responsible for inserting a white label, with correct weight, into core
MACHINERY:
Train for operator duties and responsibilities, including being able and willing to learn downstream equipment and maintenance operations
Should be able to perform basic adjustments to the master roll winder.
Should be able to thread all downstream equipment
Must have basic understanding of extrusion process
Should be able to make minor adjustments to the master roll winder.
Should be able to adjust tension on winder and understand how it affects the roll
Must be able to keep tools and miscellaneous metal parts off floor (out of scrap)
Company policies, procedures, and practices are implemented via this position. Quality of products is directly related to the effectiveness of individuals in this job. A broad base of current technical knowledge is required to ensure that standards are met, and efficiencies are maintained. Problem solving and decision-making abilities are essential for success.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification:
HS Diploma or GED is preferred
Required Knowledge:
- Previous manufacturing experience preferred
Experience Required:
- None, on the job training is provided
Ongoing training and education are essential to continue to improve work processes, all Shields employees will be expected to attend training and education sessions.
Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to read a tape measure
- Basic math skills required
- Good communication skills required
- Ability to pass a color-blind test
- Some previous computer data entry preferred
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS:
- Quality of product shipped
- Attendance
- Ability to help other lines
- Cleanliness of work area
Hours of Employment
Employees are expected to work 12-hour shifts that are on a monthly rotation schedule. The shifts are currently from 7 AM - 7 PM (day shift), and 7 PM - 7 AM (night shift). Every 28 days these rotate between days and nights.
This is an hourly/non-exempt position. Overtime regulations do apply. Holidays, sick leave, vacation, etc. as dictated by the Shields employee handbook.

Quality of products is directly related to the effectiveness of individuals in this job. A broad base of current technical knowledge is required to ensure that standards are met, and efficiencies are maintained. Problem solving and decision-making abilities are essential for success. \r\n \r\nQUALIFICATIONS \r\nEducation/Certification:\r\nHS Diploma or GED is preferred\r\nRequired Knowledge: \r\n- Previous manufacturing experience preferred\r\nExperience Required:\r\n- None, on the job training is provided \r\n \r\nOngoing training and education are essential to continue to improve work processes, all Shields employees will be expected to attend training and education sessions.\r\n \r\nSkills/Abilities: \r\n- Ability to read a tape measure\r\n- Basic math skills required\r\n- Good communication skills required\r\n- Ability to pass a color-blind test\r\n- Some previous computer data entry preferred \r\n \r\nPERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS:\r\n- Quality of product shipped\r\n- Attendance\r\n- Ability to help other lines\r\n- Cleanliness of work area\r\n \r\nHours of Employment \r\nEmployees are expected to work 12-hour shifts that are on a monthly rotation schedule. The shifts are currently from 7 AM - 7 PM (day shift), and 7 PM - 7 AM (night shift). Every 28 days these rotate between days and nights.\r\nThis is an hourly/non-exempt position.
