Description The Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) is seeking an outstanding Senior Principal Electrical Engineer Engineering Programs Division as a Staff Engineer. In this role, you will be expected to apply a range of theoretical, computational, and experimental techniques to the electrical safety program and act as the NNSS Electrical Safety Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Our MISSION is to help ensure the security of the United States and its allies by providing high-hazard experimentation and incident response capabilities through operations, engineering, education, field, and integration services and by acting as environmental stewards to the Site’s Cold War legacy. Responsibilities The Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) is seeking an outstanding Senior Principal Electrical Safety Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) Engineer. In this role, you will be expected to apply a range of theoretical, computational, and experimental techniques to the electrical safety program and act as the NNSS Electrical Safety Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). Key responsibilities: As the Electrical Safety Subject Matter Expert, this position is responsible for leading the development and implementation of the MSTS electrical safety program, consistent with DOE requirements, OSHA, NFPA 70E and consensus standards. The objective of the electrical safety program is to ensure safe operations, maintenance and repair of MSTS electrical systems and experiments, including managing associated risks through control of electrical hazards. Act as Subject Matter Expert and interpretive authority for NFPA 70E. Develop, review and approve electrical hazard analysis documents. Provide electrical safety support for pulsed power systems and subsystems relating to accelerator applications.  Keep current on applicable electrical standards and requirements. Conduct assessments of Electrical Safety Programs, including field inspections, procedure and policy reviews to identify weaknesses and corrective actions. Review, maintain and conduct training on Electrical Safety topics including Basic Electrical Safety, Lockout/Tagout, Capacitor Banks, Battery Banks and Electric Utilization. Conduct OSHA compliance evaluations, accident and incident investigations, program development and training. Perform other duties as assigned by the Engineering Programs Division Manager. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) required for Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering degrees Or, Calculus-based STEM bachelor’s degree in engineering Or, for Architects, Certification from the National Council or Architectural Registration Board (NCARB)  Or Professional Engineer license Plus at least 14 years’ relevant experience. Skill building experience must demonstrate either deeper technical specialization or additional cross-disciplinary knowledge; graduate research experience may be recognized. Must have expert working knowledge in NFPA 70E, NFPA 780, Arc Flash Hazards, Arc Flash Analysis, Personal Protective Equipment, and OSHA regulations. Experience in a Research & Development setting, including pulse power, is highly desired. Must be able to apply OSHA, DOE, NFPA, and other pertinent federal, state, and local regulatory requirements within a multi-program national laboratory setting. Ability to interpret codes and standards applicable to the position. Recognized as an authoritative source of information. Demonstrated knowledge of safety issues or potential hazards relating to pulsed power systems and devices and the use of interlocks and design features to mitigate risks and hazards. Possess independent judgment, creativity, initiative, and ability to apply knowledge and experience to resolve problems, compose technical correspondence and reports, and accomplish goals where established procedures may not be specific or do not exist. Highly organized and able to prioritize and schedule multiple activities of the organizational unit. Excellent oral and written communication skills to maintain continual contact with management within the Company, DOE, and user agencies in planning and coordinating occupational safety matters, and to maintain relationships with top management inside and outside the Company in planning and initiating occupational safety techniques and programs. Attention to detail, and high degree of accuracy required in writing technical documents and ensuring all Company policies and procedures are followed.  The primary work location will be at the Nevada National Security Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada). Work schedule will be 4/10’s, Monday – Thursday or 9/80 (subject to change). Overtime may be required. Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Must possess a valid driver's license Must possess a valid driver's license. MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2 , “Personnel Security”. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted. Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4 , “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted.  Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required.
