Overview
Under the direction of the Summer Director, a Summer Counselor will provide leadership and implementation of the summer program. This includes instruction of children in groups of up to 14 children. Provide a safe and fun environment for your group. Plan and execute activities.
We are hiring at multiple locations: East Sacramento, Rollingwood and Sacramento Central.
This job announcement is not intended to be inclusive of all functions, responsibilities and qualifications associated with the position, however, representative of the essential job functions and typical criteria considered necessary to successfully perform the position.
Responsibilities
Attend all orientation sessions prior to summer program.
Understand and attend to the needs of children.
Guide, direct and Participate with your group in activities.
Develop group cohesiveness.
Assist in the social, mental, and emotional development of the children using values clarification techniques.
Maintain control of the children in your care at all times.
Responsible for the health and safety of the children under your supervision.
Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment, facilities, and the natural environment.
Support and assist other summer personnel in all areas of program operation and development.
Manage personal time in accordance with summer program policies.
Maintain standards of conduct.
All other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Qualifications
At least 18 years of age (The age minimum may be higher depending on state law and YMCA policies.).
High school graduate or equivalent.
One year or more of college preferred.
Previous experience working with children preferably in a summer program setting.
Experience preferred in recreational group activities.
