Description
“Every person deserves compassion, dignity, and the safety of a place to call home.” Homelessness is the largest social and public health crisis in California. Illumination Health + Home is a growing non-profit organization dedicated towards disrupting the cycle of homelessness by providing targeted, interdisciplinary services in our recuperative care centers, emergency shelters, housing services and children's and family programs. IHH currently has 13+ facilities with 22+ micro-communities scattered across Orange County, Los Angeles County and the Inland Empire.
Role
The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations and managing the Staff Accountants. This position ensures the accuracy of financial records, compliance with internal controls and external regulations, and timely completion of monthly and annual closes. The Accounting Manager will play a key role in supporting audits, financial reporting, and process improvements while fostering a collaborative, mission-driven work environment in support of the organization’s programs.
This salary range for this position is $90 - $110k per year.
Responsibilities
Manages and provides guidance, training, and support to Staff Accountants; reviews their work for accuracy and completeness. Oversees the preparation, reconciliation, and maintenance of general ledger accounts and financial records. Ensures timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes, including reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules. Reviews bank reconciliations, cash management entries, and payroll-related accounting activities. Assists the Controller with preparation of financial statements and management reports. Coordinates with external auditors and regulatory agencies; compiles and reviews audit schedules and documentation. Monitors compliance with accounting policies, procedures, internal controls, and federal/state regulations (including Uniform Guidance, when applicable). Identifies process improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and internal control effectiveness. Provides mentorship, performance feedback, and development opportunities to accounting staff. Supports special projects, system implementations, and cross-department initiatives as assigned. Performs other related duties as needed to support the Finance Department and organizational goals. Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 2+ years in a people management or lead role. Strong proficiency with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook). Demonstrated experience managing monthly and annual close processes. Ability to train, mentor, and manage accounting staff. Preferred:
CPA license or Master’s degree in Accounting/Finance. Experience with nonprofit accounting, Federal Uniform Guidance, and restricted fund tracking. Prior experience with QuickBooks, NetSuite, Concur, or Bill.com. Experience in a healthcare or social services organization.
