Description

Job Title : Lead Technical Planner - Business Planning and Governance Department : Portfolio Management Location : Lagos Directly Reports to : Portfolio Manager JOB SUMMARY This role plays a key part in the OML-30 portfolio by identifying short- and long-term production optimization opportunities and generating portfolio insights through data analytics to support high-quality business decisions. The Lead Technical Planner leads the annual planning cycle, ensuring integration of commercial, financial, and technical inputs to optimize asset performance and long-term value for HEOSL. The role advises the Portfolio Management Team on strategic options that align production forecasts, development plans, and operational activities with budget targets and economic objectives. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Annual Work Program and Budget/Strategic Planning: Contributes to the cost build up, commercial evaluation, financial analysis and provide commercial input to the Annual Work Program and Budget activities; Coordinates and manages the cross-functional teams to define, develop and implement business planning processes; executes key business initiatives that will drive business operations, &  implements best practices to meet business objectives. Production Forecasting & Financial Planning: Supports integrated short-, medium-, and long-term production forecasting for OML-30 by converting technical production profiles into revenue, cost, and cash flow projections for budgeting and business planning. Evaluates the financial impact of operational activities and production variances, partnering with technical teams to align forecasts with budget assumptions and value optimization goals. Reserves & Economic Evaluation Support: Provides financial and economic analysis for reserves and resource bookings, including valuation, sensitivity analysis, and investment screening. Supports preparation of Reserves Support Packages by integrating commercial metrics (NPV, IRR, payback) into technical evaluations to inform planning, capital allocation, and portfolio prioritization decisions. Performance Analysis & Reporting: Contributes to the Annual Reservoir Performance Report by linking production performance to financial outcomes. Performs variance analysis against budget and forecast, quantifies revenue and cost impacts, and provides insights to support corrective actions, reforecasting, and mid-term plan adjustments . Resource Progression: Identifies, where possible, value-generating opportunities for the company including (but not limited to) production optimization, develops reserves, improves ultimate recovery, efficiency and reduces cost. Supports business plans with production improvement opportunities. Project evaluation and strategic decision support: Supports data gathering, financial modelling, and capital project evaluation to ensure value-driven investment decisions. Identifies and assesses growth opportunities, market trends, and industry dynamics to provide actionable insights that inform strategic planning, optimization, and long-term value Stakeholder Engagement/Relationships: Builds and maintains strong working relationship and interfaces with JV partners, representing HEOSL at external meetings. Performance Management and reporting: Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress against business goals. Ensure the delivery of world class management and data driven information to drive leadership decisions Contributes to department / ad hoc tasks for Senior Management . Disseminates best practices and guidance to less experienced team members. QUALIFICATION Key qualifications for this role are: A bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering, Petroleum Economics, Energy Economics, or a related field with strong commercial or financial exposure. A postgraduate qualification in Petroleum Economics, Energy Economics, Accounting, Finance (with an upstream oil and gas focus), or an MBA with specialization in Finance, Strategy, or Energy is advantageous. Relevant professional certifications such as CFA are also beneficial, while ACCA or ICAN will be considered where combined with upstream industry experience. Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in oil and gas business. Practical experience in business planning, production forecasting, providing commercial input to reservoir management, reserves and resource volume estimation. Expertise using Power BI and/or Tableau or other similar tools is desirable Strong math skills (e.g., statistics, algebra); exceptional analytical skills; and a pragmatic approach to problem solving informed by a well-developed concept of strategy with Business Acumen. Proactive in nature with excellent planning & organization skills. Broad understanding of other E&P disciplines
