This role emphasizes teaching fundamental basketball skills, fostering teamwork, promoting academic achievement, and modeling positive character for student-athletes. The assistant coach works closely with the head coach, athletic director, and school administration to ensure the program aligns with the mission and values of the school. Key Responsibilities Assist the Head Coach in planning, organizing, and conducting practices, games, and team activities. Teach fundamental and advanced basketball skills, strategies, and conditioning appropriate for high school athletes. Support player development on and off the court, focusing on sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, and leadership. Help manage game-day operations, including scouting opponents, developing strategies, and ensuring athletes are prepared. Monitor and support student-athletes’ academic performance, encouraging balance between athletics and academics. Assist with equipment management, inventory, and uniform distribution/collection. Uphold and enforce all school, conference, and IHSA (or state association) policies and regulations. Promote a safe and respectful environment for athletes, maintaining high standards of conduct and discipline. Collaborate with the Head Coach and Athletic Director on scheduling, transportation, and program communication with players and families. Serve as a positive role model and mentor for student-athletes.
