Ingenium Schools currently operates several charter schools, serving students throughout Los Angeles. POSITION SUMMARY: This position will serve as a substitute teacher for any short or long term teacher absences. This person must be flexible, willing and able to teach a range of grade levels, students, and subjects. Teaching at Ingenium means you are part of a family. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & JOB DUTIES: KEY CONTRIBUTIONS Support the mission, vision, and core values of Ingenium Schools Strive to implement, by instruction and action, Ingenium Schools’ philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives in connection with Ingenium’s Signature Practices Continuously maintain and improve professional competence Attend mandatory trainings, professional meetings, and educational conferences, as required CLASSROOM CULTURE Build relationships with all students that demonstrate mutual respect and compassion Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior, measuring progress through individual and class goal setting Involve students in the process of the classroom including: creating a class Code of Cooperation, creating classroom procedures, and conflict resolution strategies Create a safe, developmentally appropriate classroom environment conducive to learning and based on student interests and goals Incorporate restorative justice and PBIS practices and implement social emotional learning curriculum Implement and support school/organizational policies governing student life and conduct Utilize educational technology including GoogleApps for Education to enhance learning experiences ACADEMIC For long-term assignments, the substitute teacher must lesson plan, complete and enter student grades, and attend all department and teacher meetings Design, implement, and monitor the learning experiences of each student during long term assignments Implement absent teacher lesson plans with fidelity for short term and day to day teaching assignments Instruct students individually and in groups using various teaching methods: lecture, discussion, demonstration, small group, student-led instruction, etc. as appropriate for short and long term assignments Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ differing needs and interests, especially for long term assignments Support intervention programs for students requiring extra help In harmony with curriculum and in connection with Common Core State Standards, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to students daily during long term assignments Prepare materials and classroom for class activities for long term assignments Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, and guide students in learning activities, as requested or required DATA DRIVEN Consistently and accurately observe and assess students’ academic performance, behavior, social development, and physical health, both formally and informally, through observation, formative assessment, and written evaluation (long term assignments) Provide frequent and timely feedback to students and parents on student progress (long term assignments) Recommend resources to parents for additional student growth, as needed Timely deliver accurate and complete written and oral progress reports Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by law and Ingenium Schools’ policies Maintain individual and class goal folders to set learning goals and action plans and track learning process Maintain student confidentiality COLLABORATION Confer with students and parents outside of the instructional day to resolve students’ behavioral and/or academic issues, as needed Maintain and improve professional competence and participate in professional development opportunities Actively participate in team meetings (grade level, special education, department, etc.) and serve on staff committees, school-wide events, parent workshops, and community partnership events Assist with school/organizational events, general supervision, extra-curricular support, tutoring, etc., as needed Actively participate in student recruitment, including but not limited to: attending recruitment events, student orientations, and community events to represent the school and inform the community of Ingenium Schools Assists with distribution of marketing materials in the community, as needed Perform related duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES KNOWLEDGE OF: Highly effective teaching strategies for all student groups California Common Core State Standards curriculum and instruction Principles and methods of curriculum design, a plus Effective measurements of learning/assessments, including diagnostic, formative and summative, performance tasks and project evaluation English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar Mathematics, including arithmetic, geometry, algebra, etc. Child cognitive development and learning styles Learning and motivational strategies that extend all students towards high academic and personal achievement Computer application and Internet search skills Distance learning experience preferred, and must have the capacity to learn how to be successful working in an independent study environment ABILITY TO: Establish a culture of high expectations based on the belief that all students can be successful Develop and implement lesson plans and classroom activities aligned with Common Core State Standards and adopted curricular resources Analyze qualitative and quantitative student data; create and track efficacy of data-driven action plans Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
