This role includes supervising inspection personnel, coordinating field activities, ensuring quality and safety compliance, and delivering accurate, well-documented inspection reports for inclusion in CTDOT’s bridge management systems.</p>\n<p>The position involves a combination of field leadership, technical oversight, coordination with agency stakeholders, and report review.</p>\n<h2>Responsibilities</h2>\n<p>Inspection Leadership & Oversight</p>\n<ul>\n <li>Serve as NBIS Team Leader for routine, in-depth, special, damage, and fracture-critical bridge inspections.</li>\n <li>Supervise and mentor bridge inspectors, ensuring adherence to inspection procedures, safety requirements, and reporting standards.</li>\n <li>Assign tasks, review field documentation, and provide technical guidance to inspection staff.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>Field Inspection & Data Collection</p>\n<ul>\n <li>Lead hands-on inspections of bridge elements, including:</li>\n <ul>\n  <li>Decks, superstructures, substructures</li>\n  <li>Bearings, joints, piers, abutments, culverts, and ancillary structures</li>\n </ul>\n <li>Identify, evaluate, and document structural deficiencies using NBIS condition ratings and CTDOT criteria.</li>\n <li>Direct and participate in inspections utilizing specialized access methods such as:</li>\n <ul>\n  <li>Under-bridge inspection units (snooper trucks)</li>\n  <li>Aerial lifts, ladders, rope access, confined space entry, and over-water inspections</li>\n </ul>\n</ul>\n<p>Planning, Coordination & Safety</p>\n<ul>\n <li>Plan and coordinate inspection schedules, access requirements, and traffic control in coordination with CTDOT and support teams.</li>\n <li>Ensure compliance with all jobsite safety requirements, including:</li>\n <ul>\n  <li>Traffic control plans</li>\n  <li>Fall protection systems</li>\n  <li>Confined space entry procedures</li>\n </ul>\n <li>Participate in field reviews, coordination meetings, and technical discussions with CTDOT representatives.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>Reporting & Quality Assurance</p>\n<ul>\n <li>Review and approve inspection reports, field notes, photographs, and sketches for accuracy and completeness.</li>\n <li>Ensure inspection documentation meets FHWA, NBIS, and CTDOT standards prior to submission.</li>\n <li>Support QA/QC reviews and assist with resolving technical comments.</li>\n <li>Assist with load rating data collection, structural evaluations, and engineering assessments when required.</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<h2>Qualifications</h2>\n<p>Education</p>\n<ul>\n <li>Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering</li>\n</ul>\n<p>Experience</p>\n<ul>\n <li>Minimum 5 years of bridge inspection experience meeting FHWA NBIS qualification requirements</li>\n <li>Demonstrated experience serving as an NBIS Bridge Inspection Team Leader</li>\n</ul>\n<p>Required Certification</p>\n<ul>\n <li>Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Connecticut or ability to obtain by reciprocity</li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n <li>FHWA-approved NBIS Bridge Inspection Training</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Preferred & Project-Specific Qualifications</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Completion of FHW A/NHI bridge inspection courses, such as:</li>\n <ul>\n  <li>NHI 130055 / 130056 (Bridge Inspection)</li>\n  <li>Fracture Critical Inspection</li>\n  <li>Ancillary Structure or Tunnel Inspection (as applicable)</li>\n </ul>\n <li>CTDOT-approved bridge inspection qualifications, as required</li>\n <li>Prior experience on CTDOT bridge inspection contracts</li>\n <li>Experience with AASHTOWare Bridge Management or similar asset management systems</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Safety & Technical Certifications (Preferred)</p>\n<ul>\n <li>OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour Construction Safety</li>\n <li>Fall Protection Training</li>\n <li>Confined Space Entry</li>\n <li>First Aid / CPR</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Skills & Additional Requirements</p>\n<ul>\n <li>Strong knowledge of NBIS, FHWA regulations, and CTDOT Bridge Inspection Manual</li>\n <li>Proven ability to lead teams and manage field operations effectively</li>\n <li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills</li>\n <li>Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic inspection data collection tools</li>\n <li>Ability to work at heights, over water, and in active traffic environments</li>\n <li>Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel statewide within Connecticut</li>\n <li>Availability for night, weekend, or off-hour work as required by traffic or access constraints</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Physical & Work Environment Requirements</p>\n<ul>\n <li>Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, and bridge components</li>\n <li>Ability to lift and carry inspection equipment</li>\n <li>Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions</li>\n
