Description

Cuningham is seeking an Architectural Project Manager to join our San Diego team and advance our purpose of designing for social and ecological well-being. We are a forward-thinking design firm that values people, creative problem solving, and a learning mindset to deliver thoughtful, regenerative solutions that positively impact communities. This role focuses on healthcare projects, requiring experience managing complex environments and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. Opportunities to contribute across other market sectors are also available. The Project Manager leads projects through all phases, coordinating scope, contracts, budgets, schedules, and communication with clients and consultants. The ideal candidate brings strong healthcare project experience, a solid understanding of design and construction, and the ability to lead teams and engage clients effectively. Why Cuningham? At Cuningham, we believe the best work happens when people are supported, challenged, and connected. Whether collaborating across teams, engaging with our communities, or shaping meaningful design solutions, we bring pragmatic creativity and disciplined execution to every project — and we support each other through it all. We nurture an equitable work environment where curiosity is celebrated, craft is valued, and growth is prioritized. Alongside a team that brings low-ego expertise and active leadership day-to-day, you’ll work on complex, high-stakes projects that demand bold thinking and disciplined delivery. _________________________________________________________________________________ Cuningham is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer and values the strength diversity brings to the workplace when combined with equity and justice. Qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, ethnicity, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, age, genetic information, national origin, disability, military, or veteran status. What you will do Lead small- to mid-sized project teams to deliver successful outcomes aligned with project goals, client expectations, and firm priorities. Partner with the Project Executive and project leaders to build and support high-performing teams, aligning work with individual strengths and growth goals. Collaborate on developing project scope, schedules, and fees, contributing to clear and comprehensive proposals. Guide teams through all project phases, supporting design and technical coordination across disciplines. Develop and maintain project workplans, schedules, and staffing plans to keep teams aligned and projects on track. Foster a collaborative, accountable team environment that encourages strong communication and high-quality work. Monitor project financial performance, aligning budgets, staffing, and deliverables to meet targets. Lead and facilitate client, consultant, and internal communications and meetings. Manage day-to-day client relationships, ensuring clear communication around scope, schedule, and budget. Identify opportunities for additional services and support efforts to secure associated fees. Oversee administration of owner and consultant contracts. Maintain oversight of technical deliverables, including signing and sealing documents when required. Support staffing strategies and contribute to revenue forecasting. Contribute to business development efforts, including proposals and interviews. Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance guidance to team members. What we look for Demonstrated success leading and inspiring management, technical and design staff. 10 years’ experience in the AEC industry. Previous experience in the Healthcare Market. Proven track record in the state of CA with OSHPD/HCAI experience. Bachelor's or master's degree in architecture required. Architecture license required, preferably in the state of California. Proficient with MS Office, Bluebeam, AIA Contracts, MS Project (or similar), Deltek Vantagepoint (or similar). Familiar with Revit/BIM 360, Miro & Microsoft Teams (digital collaboration tools).
