Description
We’re looking for a Senior Marine Systems Engineer to join our Hull Engineering team and play a key role in the design and delivery of advanced vessels for the Royal Canadian Navy and Canadian Coast Guard.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer who is passionate about shipbuilding and thrives in complex, multidisciplinary environments.
Responsibilities

Independently review vendor and subcontractor deliverables, including calculations, models, reports, and technical specifications
Ensure compliance with customer requirements, Classification Society rules, and shipyard standards
Support production and trials teams by assisting with installation, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of systems
Develop and deliver key engineering outputs such as:

System arrangement drawings
Engineering reports and test documentation
Manage both planned and emergent work within your scope and meet critical project timelines
Create and maintain engineering procedures and processes for recurring work
Identify and manage risks, develop mitigation strategies, and make sound, risk-based technical decisions
Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to drive project success
Champion continuous improvement initiatives within your discipline
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (B.Eng.) or equivalent
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation (or eligibility)
Approximately 8+ years of relevant experience, ideally in:
Naval or commercial ship design and construction, or
Complex industrial or manufacturing environments
Strong knowledge of:
Marine systems and shipbuilding practices
Applicable standards and regulations (e.g., Lloyd’s Register, Transport Canada, IMO, IACS)
Experience working with:
Technical drawings and blueprints
3D ship models or simulations
Engineering specifications and reports
Ability to manage schedules, meet deadlines, and prioritize work effectively
Familiarity with shipyard disciplines, including hull structure, outfit, producibility, and manufacturing processes
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a practical, hands-on approach
Due to the nature of work Irving Shipbuilding does, all successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
Please note this position requires a full-time, in-office presence.
