Job Description Title : Registered Nurse Reports to : Manager, Primary Care Position Type: 1 year contract – 35 hours per week Salary: $36.68-$43.15 per hour Vacancy Status: Existing Vacancy Location: Kingston Position Summary As a key member of the multi-disciplinary primary health care team, the Registered Nurse (RN) provides high-quality, client-centered care within a general clinic setting. The RN supports clinical operations through routine nursing care, health education, and coordination with other care providers to meet the needs of a diverse patient population, including those that use substances, homeless, recently incarcerated and at risk for Hepatitis C. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the RN may also contribute to initiatives that support patient access to preventive health services, including routine health maintenance and screening as appropriate. Key Responsibilities Clinical Working knowledge of treatments of substance use disorders including methadone maintenance treatment and buprenorphine/naloxone (as per best practice documents) Ensure clients receive comprehensive, competent and appropriate health care by accurately assessing clients as required to support team members Provide acute and episodic medical care within the RN scope of practice (wound care, STI testing etc) Documentation of care provided to clients in accordance with CNO standards and guidelines Provide health education including supporting clients with issues relating to substance use, sexual activity and health, infectious disease, poverty and marginalization Provide nursing support to providers in selected procedures when needed Provide basic laboratory and phlebotomy procedures and treatment services (e.g., urine tests, glucometer readings, dressings, injections, immunizations, allergy treatments, etc.) Work with other staff to support a successful and seamless client experience Order and maintain medical supplies, laboratory supplies and immunizations as needed Contribute to and support quality improvement initiatives Ensure infection control and occupational health and safety standards are followed in practice Other duties as assigned within RN scope of practice Administrative Duties Registration of clients Documentation as listed in clinical and outreach components, in accordance with standards of CNO and KCHC Participate in functional activities of KCHC, attending staff meetings and committees as required, and following KCHC policies and procedures Contribute to chart documentation (including Electronic Health Records), by documenting symptoms and conditions, nursing interventions and referrals and recommendations for ongoing treatment Organizational Responsibilities Comply with all relevant legislation and KCHC policies, including privacy laws Commits to acquiring an understanding of the importance of trauma responsiveness and the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) Commits to demonstrating an ongoing commitment to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Indigenization and Accessibility (EDIIA) by representing the diverse nature of our communities, promoting and practicing inclusion Supports consistent application and development of KCHC policies and procedures Supports KCHC’s student and volunteer placement programs Promotes awareness of and participation in KCHC activities Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and quality improvement On occasion, perform other temporary duties as required Basic Education and Experience Requirements Undergraduate degree in nursing from a recognized university or combination of nursing diploma and additional relevant training Registration with the Ontario College of Nurses Three plus years’ recent nursing experience in a community setting. Experience in mental health, addictions and/or working with vulnerable and equity seeking populations and a working knowledge of harm reduction practices an asset Awareness of/openness to implementation of alternate forms of treatment Awareness of Provincial and Federal privacy regulations Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Proficiency in the use of computers and relevant software applications (PS Suites, Microsoft word, Excel, etc) Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well within an interdisciplinary team Ability to function independently and as a team, within scope of practice Sound problem solving, conflict resolution and decision making skills Ability to treat all individuals with respect and interact in a tactful and supportive manner while maintaining professional boundaries Knowledge of and ability to work within a Trauma Informed Care framework Knowledge of harm reduction principles and philosophies Other Requirements Reliable attendance, ability to meet the physical demands of the position Current certificate in CPR Current and satisfactory Criminal and Vulnerable Persons Check Support the review of CTS policies to ensure policies reflect current available evidence Follows medical directives and protocols as required As a registered professional, to abide by and be accountable to the ethics and standards set out by the relevant regulatory body of the profession.
