Primary Care Clinician (Part-time)

The Problem Severe mental illness affects over 15 million adults in the United States. Schizophrenia. Schizoaffective disorder. Bipolar I. Treatment-resistant depression. These are the conditions the rest of healthcare has systematically failed to build for. What makes this problem different from most of healthcare is that the tools to solve it do not exist. The clinical protocols, the measurement science, the precision medicine, the technology to deliver coordinated longitudinal outpatient care for this population. None of it has been built. Who We Are Amae Health is a Series B, venture-backed Public Benefit Corporation that delivers specialty outpatient care for people living with severe mental illness, including schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar I disorder, and treatment-resistant depression. We design and operate high-acuity, in-person clinics across the United States. Our model integrates psychiatry, therapy, primary care, dietitians, and community health workers under one roof to deliver coordinated, longitudinal care for a population that has historically been fragmented across systems. The Role We are seeking a Primary Care Clinician (FNP, MD, or DO) for a 1099 contract role at our soon-to-open Charlotte, NC clinic. This position requires an on-site commitment of 4–5 hours per week . What You'll Work On Conduct thorough assessments, diagnose medical conditions, and manage acute and chronic illnesses while considering their impact on mental health Prescribe and manage medications, ensuring safe and effective use, while considering potential interactions with psychiatric medications Perform routine physical examinations and preventive health screenings, integrating the findings with mental health care plans Educate members on health promotion, disease prevention, and management of chronic conditions Maintain accurate, up-to-date medical records and documentation integrated with mental health care plans Participate in ongoing professional development and attend regular team meetings Uphold Amae Health's commitment to providing compassionate, holistic, and culturally sensitive care What You'll Have NP Degree from an accredited school or MD/DO degree from an accredited medical school Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in North Carolina Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or related primary care specialty For NP PCP candidates, minimum of 5 years RN experience prior to PCP licensure and 1+ year experience as FNP after completion of clinical hours preferred Previous experience working independently as a PCP Excellent clinical, communication, and interpersonal skills Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and embrace a whole-person care approach Strong commitment to patient-centered care Preferred experience in primary care for patients with severe mental illness What We're Building As a clinician at Amae, you are not adjacent to this work.
