    "description": "<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">TST TACTICAL DEFENSE SOLUTIONS, INC.<br>DBA TIDEWATER DEVELOPMENT SERVICES CORPORATION (TDSC)</span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">SUMMARY:</span><br>The Civil Heavy Equipment Operator position will be responsible for operating heavy equipment/machinery for construction, demolition, or excavation projects. Heavy Equipment Operators are highly skilled individuals that operate and maintain various types of construction equipment; including, but not limited to excavators, loaders, backhoes, bull dozers, graders, etc. Heavy Equipment Operator duties include digging trenches and maneuvering shoring for pipe crews, to install or repair sanitary sewer, storm drain, or water lines, etc. A working knowledge of methods, materials, and tools used in sanitary sewer, storm drain, and water construction work is essential.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Our search is currently limited to qualified candidates living within the Hampton Roads commuting area.</span></em></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Must be able to operate a variety of equipment including but not limited to, backhoes, excavators, loaders, skid steers.</li>\n<li>Operate equipment proficiently in a safe and efficient manner, while producing high quality work and meeting production goals.</li>\n<li>Confirm utilities and other buried lines or structures are located prior to digging.</li>\n<li>Must be able to maintain grade with the assistance of others using lasers, levels, transits, string lines, or other methods.</li>\n<li>Maintain legal excavations per OSHA and other associated Federal and State agency regulations.</li>\n<li>Inspect equipment and general work area prior to the start of any job, including completing all required paperwork.</li>\n<li>Perform routine inspection of equipment.</li>\n<li>Load trucks with materials, rock, and dirt with various types of equipment.</li>\n<li>Understanding of soil types and how they affect the work being performed and the hazards they present.</li>\n<li>Actively aware of surroundings near the equipment to maintain safe operation and distances from potential hazards such as underground utility lines, overhead utility lines, other equipment, and other workers.</li>\n<li>Maintain the flow of work under minimal supervision.</li>\n<li>Ensure the equipment is safely and securely stored.</li>\n<li>Assist the ground crew in other activities if your specific job skills are not needed that day.</li>\n<li>Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by supervisors.</li>\n<li>Must reside within commuting distance of our main office in Virginia Beach, VA.</li>\n<li>This is an in-person, on-site position.</li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">NEED TO BE ABLE TO OBTAIN BASE ACCESS FOR ONGOING PROJECTS!</span><br></li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in construction is preferred.</li>\n<li>Minimum of 3 years’ experience operating excavator to complete grading, water, sewer and storm drain activities.</li>\n<li>Experience and knowledge of construction means and methods and understanding of the utility industry trades, installation, maintenance, and practices – specifically underground utilities such as water, sewage, and drainage systems.</li>\n<li>Strong knowledge regarding the operation, safety, and maintenance of equipment being used.</li>\n<li>Knowledge of positioning, joining, and aligning lines at proper depths, angles, and grades.</li>\n<li>Knowledge of Construction Safety Regulations and Best Practices.</li>\n<li>Ability to read and interpret documents such as construction specifications, blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.</li>\n<li>Must have a valid Drivers License and any other required licenses/certifications for operation of Heavy Equipment.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS &amp; ABILITIES:</span><br></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dependable.</li>\n<li>Attention to Detail.</li>\n<li>Follow through.</li>\n<li>Proactively identifies potential issues.</li>\n<li>Solve problems calmly and collaboratively.</li>\n<li>Willingness to receive constructive performance feedback.</li>\n<li>Ability to use and learn current and future technology.</li>\n<li>Ability to travel to jobsites as needed.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">PHYSICAL DEMANDS:</span><br></p>\n<ul>\n<li>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
