JOB SUMMARY Location: Kleinmachnow, Hybrid Employment Type: Unlimited HIGHYAG Lasertechnologie GmbH is an international and innovative technology company within the Coherent Group. We develop and manufacture industrial tools for laser material processing at our Kleinmachnow site with around 100 employees. We are seeking an experienced Optical Designer to lead the development of optical systems from concept to production. With a strong grounding in physical principles and expertise in modern simulation tools, you will translate complex requirements into robust, high-performance designs ready for manufacturing. ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES Responsibility for the design and optimization of complex optical systems across the entire value chain Design and specification of opto-mechanical systems, taking into account interfaces with electronics, mechanics, and software Development and definition of optical test concepts and corresponding test hardware Verification of specifications through tolerance analyses, statistical methods, and experimental validation Close monitoring of production ramp-ups and support during integration and testing Technical coordination with suppliers regarding components, manufacturing processes, and quality Direct communication with customers to clarify requirements, concepts, and results Analysis and sustainable resolution of system failures in the field (root cause analysis) ABOUT YOU Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Optics, Physics, or a related field Proven industry experience in optical design, ideally within complex systems Strong expertise in lens and mirror design, coatings, and tolerancing Experience with optical simulation and modelling tools (e.g. Ansys, Zemax) Solid understanding of statistical methods and experimental validation Knowledge of optical component manufacturing processes Technical & Professional Skills Experience working across interdisciplinary systems (optics, mechanics, electronics, software) Proficiency in data analysis and automation, e.g. Python Strong analytical thinking with a structured, solution-oriented approach Effective communicator, comfortable working in international, cross-functional teams German (business level) – required for internal collaboration English (fluent) – written and spoken Ensure adherence to company’s values (ICARE) in all aspects of your position.: I ntegrity – Create an Environment of Trust C ollaboration – Innovate Through the Sharing of Ideas A ccountability – Own the Process and the Outcome R espect – Recognize the Value in Everyone E nthusiasm – Find a Sense of Purpose in Work APPLICATION & SELECTION Current employees who wish to apply should submit a cover letter detailing their interest in the position and how their skills and experience align with the requirements of the role.
