Must be flexible.&nbsp;</strong></div><p><br></p><p data-pasted=\"true\"><strong><u><ins cite=\"mailto:Raquel%20Rivera\" datetime=\"2023-05-19T12:19\">GENERAL DESCRIPTION&nbsp;</ins></u></strong></p><p>Under the direction of a supervisor incumbent observes and reports in addition to performing a wide variety of security duties including the protection of property, crime detection, and public safety at the Port. &nbsp;This class is characterized by the use of independent judgment in the application of security principles, and knowledge of laws in responding to emergency or difficult situations. &nbsp;</p><p><strong><u>ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS</u></strong></p><ul><li>Checks vehicles and passengers at the Port&rsquo;s main entrance for proper identification; directs activities on site until relieved by superior officer; controls traffic; ensures general public safety.</li><li>Patrols Port and detects and prevents unsafe activities by surveillance of assigned Port areas.</li><li>Investigates accidents in assigned area and assists other officers.</li><li>Enforces traffic laws and vehicle codes and promotes traf&shy;fic safety; notes illegal or unsafe driving practices and advises as appropriate; directs traffic, and otherwise promotes vehicular and pedestrian safety.</li><li>Prepares a variety of reports related to Port security, accidents, and other duties; maintains logs, com&shy;pletes forms, and prepares dispositions and reports as requested.</li><li>Provides a variety of related security services.</li><li>Assists local, state and Federal public safety agencies.</li><li>Logs in all ship arrivals, departures and movements &amp; water readings.</li><li>Maintains water usage records.&nbsp;</li></ul><p><strong><u><ins cite=\"mailto:Raquel%20Rivera\" datetime=\"2023-05-19T12:19\">MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS&nbsp;</ins></u></strong></p><ul><li>High school diploma, GED&nbsp;</li><li>Two (2) year of experience in security work or equivalent public contact work.</li></ul><p>&nbsp;(A comparable amount of training, education or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)</p><p><strong><u><ins cite=\"mailto:Raquel%20Rivera\" datetime=\"2023-05-19T12:19\">OTHER REQUIREMENTS</ins></u></strong></p><ul><li>Must possess a valid Florida driver&rsquo;s license. &nbsp;</li><li>State of Florida &ldquo;D&rdquo; License as a Security Officer.</li><li>Be able to obtain Port TWIC Badge</li></ul><p><br><strong>Equal Employment Opportunity</strong></p><p>The Port is an equal opportunity employer. &nbsp;The Port is committed to the spirit and letter of all federal, state and local laws and regulations pertaining to equal opportunity. &nbsp; To this end, the Port does not discriminate against any individual with regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, marital status, pregnancy, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or other protected status including same sex marriages.
