Description

Overview The Project Manager is a key member of the Marine Department team and must have a strong understanding of complex maritime systems. The team member must understand marine project management and commissioning of marine engines and electrical systems. Must be a self‑motivated and energetic professional with experience commissioning vessels with new or repowered engine installations ranging in size, rating, and complexity. The ideal candidate should possess theoretical and practical knowledge in commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting marine engineering systems and related controls. The candidate will be responsible for reviewing project information, executing daily field activities, maintaining project documentation, assisting the Senior Project Engineer, and providing guidance to Associate Project Engineers. This role requires technical competence, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Starting base salary : $75k - $100K based on experience. This role is also eligible for quarterly bonuses. Responsibilities Commission mechanical, plumbing, and electrical control systems within maritime environments/shipyards. Review system designs for compliance with client goals. Assist with preparing plans and procedures for the commissioning process. Conduct commissioning activities from the design phase through occupancy, in accordance with client requirements and industry best practices. Attend factory testing of equipment and document procedures/results. Conduct functional testing using appropriate test instrumentation. Fully document all field procedures, including results, issues, and observations, using company templates or online applications. Report on system performance and make technical recommendations. Work with project teams to coordinate and execute field activities. Review and provide input on commissioning documentation and schedules. Submit and maintain daily commissioning reports. Assist in training Associate Project Engineers. Respond to project inquiries in a professional, timely manner. Comply with all company, client, and project safety requirements. Candidate must be knowledgeable in the following marine systems and equipment, including but not limited to: Marine engines and generators Cooling systems Electrical systems and devices Marine control systems Switchgear and circuit boards Boilers Fuel systems Backup generators Turbochargers Reciprocating engines Selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems and hybrid propulsion Fan coil units Fan arrays Variable frequency drives (VFDs) Variable refrigerant volume (VRV) systems Variable air volume (VAV) units Engine room ventilation Hydronic pumps Leak detection systems Heat trace systems DDC & PLC controls Fire pumps and controllers Pre‑action fire suppression systems Fire alarm control panels Water pumps and heaters Travel: ~50% — mostly day trips, with occasional periods of higher travel demands. Qualifications To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and ability required. Education / Experience BSc/MSc in Marine Engineering with 2+ years of mission‑critical project experience, or relevant mechanical/electrical/controls industry experience OR Minimum 4+ years commissioning experience with mission‑critical project work. Experience in mission‑critical facility commissioning is required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Organized, detail‑oriented, analytical, and proactive Strong problem‑solving ability Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to manage multiple tasks with limited supervision Experience with commissioning guidelines preferred Controls/programming experience a plus Strong understanding of test instrumentation Team player with a client‑first mentality Other CAT CAMPAR certification preferred Must have a reliable vehicle for travel to shipyards and boat shops and valid driver's license. Must have a clear understanding of 3D drafting and engineering drawings (SolidWorks and AutoCAD) This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
