Description

Creativity. Innovation. A desire to effect positive change. That’s what it takes to work at Fuss & O’Neill – because that’s what we do for the communities in which we work: we create, innovate, and design long-lasting improvements that improve quality of life. Quality of life is also important on the job, so we’ve prioritized work-life balance by offering flexible/remote work opportunities, part-time benefits, and generous PTO. We believe that each day is an opportunity to support one another, to support our clients, and to support our communities. If you feel the same, then you’ve found your future. We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our growing building systems team and play a key role in the planning, design, and delivery of complex mechanical systems for a diverse portfolio of projects. This position offers the opportunity to lead high-impact work across commercial, industrial, education, and municipal facilities while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, architects, and designers. The ideal candidate is a seasoned mechanical engineer with strong technical expertise in HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems, a passion for mentoring junior staff, and the ability to manage projects from concept through construction. This role combines hands-on engineering, project leadership, and client engagement, making it well suited for a professional looking to take the next step in their career within a collaborative and forward-thinking environment. This position may sit fully remote with travel as needed to job sites within the Northeast. Lead mechanical design and serve as project manager for building systems projects, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems. Develop and review construction documents, technical specifications, and cost estimates. Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements (e.g., ASHRAE, local building codes). Manage project scope, schedule, and budgets for assigned projects. Serve as the primary point of contact for select projects, building and maintaining strong client relationships. Coordinate and manage multi-disciplinary design teams, including internal civil, structural, and electrical staff. Oversee construction administration activities, including submittal review, responses to RFIs, and site visits. Lead and participate in internal and external project meetings, maintaining clear communication with clients, consultants, and contractors. Support proposal development, level-of-effort estimating, and project planning. Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical development within the mechanical team. Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field. 10+ years of experience in mechanical engineering design for building systems (HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection). Professional Engineer (PE) license required. Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit for MEP design. Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, plumbing systems, fire protection, and applicable building codes and ASHRAE standards. Experience managing projects through design and construction phases. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with clients and project teams. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Familiarity with BIM coordination tools preferred. Ability to travel to job sites in CT, MA, and RI. This position may be open to a flexible, part-time arrangement of 20+ hours per week. Candidates seeking a reduced schedule are encouraged to apply. Schedule Flexibility : Customize your work schedule to fit your life. Health & Wellness : Comprehensive health benefits to keep you and your family healthy. Continuous Learning : Access to online courses, conferences, and learning materials to fuel your professional growth. Paid Time Off : Take the time you need to recharge with our generous paid time off policy. Career Advancement : Clear paths for promotions and the opportunity to take on new challenges. Fun Team Culture : Regular team-building activities, happy hours, and company outings. The range posted here represents the range of salaries associated with the specific experience listed. Actual individual compensation is commensurate with relevant experience, education and certifications.
