The Public Health Nurse carries out public health nursing activities under the supervision of the Public Health Nursing Supervisor. This employee works relatively independently and is expected to make primary decisions based on sound assessments according to accepted policies and procedures of the nursing program and the Saskatchewan Health Authority and SRNA Standards of practices. This employee will facilitate in identifying needs of individuals, families, groups or communities and will assist in the development of programs/services, carry out immunization, assess client needs, make home visits, counsel and provide health promotion services. This employee liaises with, and refers to, other health personnel and agencies, as well as works closely with community groups. Home base for this position is: 1504 Albert St. Experience Minimum of one (1) year Public Health Nursing experience is an asset. Education Course credits in community health and public health nursing are required Current registration with CRNS and current BCLS certification. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) Licenses Basic Cardiac Life Support Certificate (BCLS) Valid Class 5 driver's license Competencies Interpersonal skills Knowledge and Abilities Able to assist all levels of clients to take responsibility for their own health High level of accuracy in health assessment, nursing diagnosis and treatment. Negotiation, conflict resolution and mediation skills. Demonstrates knowledge of multiple health promotion strategies Ability to work collaboratively with team members and the community at large. Uses knowledge of determinants of health in interactions with clients. Demonstrates application of the nursing process Demonstrates flexibility by adjusting workload to accommodate client needs. Ability to be self-directed Demonstrated understanding of community development Willingness to adhere to established Public Health policies and procedures. Ability to analyze health issues in the context of political & social climate Ability to demonstrate appropriate level of professional conduct and judgement. Demonstrated knowledge in educational resource development. High level of accuracy in immunization, and handling specialized equipment. Demonstrated knowledge in media communication and social marketing.
