Description Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Our MISSION is to help ensure the security of the United States and its allies by providing high-hazard experimentation and incident response capabilities through operations, engineering, education, field, and integration services and by acting as environmental stewards to the Site’s Cold War legacy. Responsibilities The Device Assembly Facility (DAF) is seeking a Principal Nuclear Facility Operations Specialist to support operations at the NNSS. As an integral part of our DAF team, you will collaborate with external and internal partners to attain desired success and sustain successful operations. As a Principal Nuclear Operations Specialist, you may assume multiple following key responsibilities as the DAF mission evolves. Key Responsibilities Perform Operational Interface duties in coordination of activities in the DAF with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) and Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) users. Control of DAF Access and movement/location of personnel and materials within the DAF, including completion of necessary documentation for the movement of material-at-risk (MAR). Serve as the Local Emergency Director for critical incidents and off normal events occurring in the facility. Participate in DAF procedural creation and periodic reviews. Serve as the primary DAF point-of-contact (POC) for nuclear project operations and/or the Protective Force team. Ensure the facility is prepared to support User project work daily. Awareness and working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, DOE, Corporate and Site rules, regulations and Site-wide operating policies and procedures. Maintain strong working knowledge of DAF procedures and DSA/TSRs. Monitor credited safety system surveillances and in-service inspections and supports system preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance. With limited assistance, deconflict priorities between maintenance, construction, and operations to ensure activities progress in a safe, secure, and orderly manner. Maintain a classified repository. Conduct professional training (not limited to MSTS personnel). Mentor less experienced professionals and support staff in defined areas. Perform other duties assigned by Management. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in field related to the position or equivalent training and experience, plus at least 9 years of related experience, which included 3 years’ experience in: Nuclear operations or nuclear maintenance such as those found at a DOE nuclear facility, commercial power plant, or US Navy Nuclear Propulsion Program. Conduct of Operations (DOE O 422.1), Nuclear Maintenance (DOE O 433.1B), Transportation & Packaging (DOE O 460.1C and 461.1B), and Quality Assurance requirements (DOE O 414.1D); or High explosives handling and operations; or chemical handling, storage, transfer, and controlled release activities. Conduct of Operations (DOE O 422.1), Transportation & Packaging (DOE O 460.1C and 461.1B), and Quality Assurance requirements (DOE O 414.1D). Candidate must have a working knowledge of Nuclear Safety Management (10 CFR 830), Occupational Radiation Protection (10 CFR 835), Price Anderson Amendment Act (PAAA) and Personnel Selection & Training Qualification (DOE O 426.2). Experience working with requirements-based systems for areas such as nuclear material operations, facility operations and maintenance, and radiological activities. Ability to read and follow detailed instructions utilizing MSTS Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's). Experience with planning and scheduling to deconflict workload distribution and execution of the work. Experience working in schedule-driven environments. Must possess excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with all types of people in a tactful, professional, and effective manner. Computer skills in MS Word, Excel, and MS Outlook are desired. Experience working with requirements-based systems in areas such as facility operations, maintenance, and/or radiological. Work location is in the Forward Area of the Nevada National Security Site, located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada). Work schedule will be 4/10s Monday through Thursday (subject to change). Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Must possess a valid driver’s license. MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2 , “Personnel Security”. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted. Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4 , “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required.
