One circulating nurse is dedicated to each patient for the duration of each surgery. The circulating nurse is responsible for managing all nursing care within the operating room, observing the surgical team from a broad perspective, and assisting the team to create and maintain a safe, comfortable environment for the patient’s surgery.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS</strong></p><ul><li>Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization.</li><li>Ensure patient needs are met in accordance with the instructions of the surgeon and facilities’ policies and procedures.</li><li>Act as a patient advocate and maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.</li><li>Demonstrate respect for co-workers and assist in maintaining a positive work environment.</li><li>Communicate with courtesy when interacting with patients, physicians, or vendors.</li><li>Coordinate and perform activities appropriate within the OR.</li><li>Provide direct clinical care to patients in surgical rooms.</li><li>Delegate tasks according to the state Nurse Practice Act and job descriptions.</li><li>Prepare the operating room for procedures each day; ensuring all supplies, implants &amp; equipment are present and ready.</li><li>Assist with efficient Operating Room turnover between cases to prepare for the next case.</li><li>Document nursing care accurately, completely, and legibly.</li><li>Assist in maintaining preference cards and charges for procedures.</li><li>Maintain required competencies.</li><li>Identify any potential unsafe situation and notify supervisor immediately.</li><li>Maintain regular and predictable attendance.</li><li>Participate in quality review and performance improvement projects.</li><li>Expected to serve as sitters as needed, following the successful completion of designated sitter education and training provided.</li><li>Perform other essential duties as assigned.</li></ul>",
