Not only is the department responsible for managing over 18,000 kilometers of provincial highways, it also manages the planning, design and construction of hospitals, schools and other government buildings.</p>\n<p>&nbsp;</p>\n<p><strong>What you will do</strong></p>\n<p>Reporting to the&nbsp;Highway Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following responsibilities:</p>\n<ul>\n <li>performing various highway maintenance and construction work;</li>\n <li>operating and maintaining light construction equipment, including a tandem service truck when required by the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure;</li>\n <li>performing normal maintenance and minor repairs on assigned equipment, preparing, and maintaining work records on the operation of the assigned equipment;</li>\n <li>operating a one-person plow in winter operations and performing other related maintenance tasks;</li>\n <li>ensuring roads are safe for public use through plowing and placing sand and salt on roads.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>&nbsp;</p>\n<p><strong>Work environment:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Office location:&nbsp;Petitcodiac, Hillsborough, Indian Mountain/Salisbury, Cap-Pelé, Sackville/Port Elgin, Shediac, Moncton, Harcourt/Acadieville, Kouchibouguac, Rexton, Bouctouche/St-Marie, Cocagne.</li>\n <li>Work occasionally on holidays, weekends, shift and/or variable hours.</li>\n <li>May work in adverse road and weather conditions.</li>\n <li>We promote a scent-reduced environment.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>&nbsp;</p>\n<p><strong>Who you are</strong></p>\n<p><strong>Key behavioural competencies:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Teamwork and Cooperation</li>\n <li>Effective Interactive Communication</li>\n <li>Flexibility</li>\n <li>Results Orientation</li>\n</ul>\n<p>&nbsp;</p>\n<p><strong>Essential Qualifications:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Completion of grade ten (10) and a minimum of one (1) year experience in the operation of heavy construction equipment.</li>\n <li>Possession of a valid Class 3 driver’s license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick with endorsement for air brakes.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.</p>\n<p>Depending on the location applied for, written and spoken competence in English and/or French will be required.
