The Instructor also assists with the daily sailing lesson operations and rental hut.</span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">The Sailing Instructor is responsible for performing the duties outlined below. This is a part-time seasonal position that typically requires working up to 30 hours per week. The instructor is expected to be available during the entire sailing class season, working mid-June through mid-August.</span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0); text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\"><span>Qualifications:</span></span></span></p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Must be at least 18 years old or older.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Must possess a valid Driver’s Licenses and have a good driving record.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">1-2 years of sailing experience from an accredited sailing program.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Knowledge of advanced sailing maneuvers and ability to teach 5-10 participants at a time during a class.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Must possess CPR/AED/First Aid certification or willing to obtain within one month of hire.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Must possess a valid L. Boating Licenses.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">U.S. Sailing Instructor Certification.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Must pass the Glencoe Park District Boat Training.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">All employees must pass a criminal background check, which the Glencoe Park District will cover.</span></li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0); text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\"><span>Required Knowledge:</span></span></span></p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Knowledge of public recreation philosophy with strong communication skills</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Proven technical understanding related to the role</span></li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0); text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\"><span>Required Skills:</span></span></span></p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Dependable and flexible, with strong safety awareness and sound judgment</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Ability to understand and follow rules and instructions</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Ability to read, write, and organize materials</span></li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0); text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\"><span>Essential Duties and Responsibilities:</span></span></span></p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\"><em>Instruct Sailing Programs</em></span></p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Work in a team with a particular lesson group (Beginner, Intermediate, Intro to Racing).</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Coordinate and be the primary contact for all sail lesson programs such as Beginner/Intermediate/ Intro to Racing while coordinating all park district sailing classes.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Help develop a season lesson plan.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Keep attendance at all sailing programs and communicate with parents for any cancellations or issues regarding any sailing-related activities.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Help write daily lesson logs.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Must communicate with the Facility Manager regarding safety issues involving the park district sailing fleet.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Will coordinate and schedule all sailing lessons staff schedules throughout the season.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Create certificates or awards for participants in sailing classes.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Programs should include:</span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Basic Sailing</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Rowing and boat retrieval</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Knot tying</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Basic boat maintenance</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Emphasis on sportsmanship and respectful behavior </span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Protocol for the rigging and de-rigging of boats</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Introduction to racing tactics</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Introduction to racing rules</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Teaching following S. Sailing Instructor Guidelines.</span></li>\n</ul>\n</li>\n</ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\"><em>Instruct Adult Sailing Classes</em></span></p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Help develop a season lesson plan.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Attend and coordinate all regattas; report results to Facility Manager.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Communicate effectively with sailing staff and other GPD staff.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Listen to and incorporate, if appropriate and beneficial, the ideas and suggestions of the other sailing staff members.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Communicate appropriately to beach/boat staff.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Will communicate with participants via email or phone call before, during, and after class.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Provide direction and feedback to the sailing program participants.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Communicate effectively regularly with the Facility Manager.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Accept direction and get approval from the Facility Manager while taking the initiative to offer ideas for developing and implementing a successful sailing program.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Engage and encourage junior sailors.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Maintain boats and areas used by sailing staff and program sailors.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Coordinate and assist in pre-season and post-season maintenance of sailing equipment.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Coordinate and assist in the maintenance of park district-owned sailing craft.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Ensure that boats are put away correctly.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Complete routine maintenance on all sailing fleets and weekly and pre-class inspections (missing clips, pins, etc.)</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Promptly report all damages to boats to the Facility Manager. </span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Assist with boat cleaning when required. </span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">The program area must be clear of related trash and gear by the end of the program day.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Cleaning up after themselves in any areas of the beach that are used.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Follow water safety procedures.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Practice safe use of boats according to Glencoe Park District policies.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Enforce Glencoe Park District boating rules following the policy.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Will coordinate all private lessons and communicate with sailing staff regarding all staff schedules during private lesson time.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Follow all safety policies and procedures of the Glencoe Park District.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Assisted in setting up and organizing sailing classes.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Field and answer patron questions to the best of their abilities.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Participate in \"community activities\" such as the 4th of July or any sailing-related special event activities.</span></li>\n</ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\"> </span></p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0); text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\"><span>Hours:</span></span></span></p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 12pt\">Due to the nature of Park District programming, evening, weekend, and some holiday hours are to be expected</span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">The Facility Manager might also direct the Sailing Instructor to perform other assignments not included in this job description, which is subject to periodic review and revision.</span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work the Sailing Instructor performs.
