Description

The Democratic Governors Association (DGA) is searching for qualified communications staff candidates for our Democratic gubernatorial campaigns across the country. The DGA works very closely with the campaigns of Democratic candidates for Governor and intends to share qualified resumes with these campaigns as the campaigns’ positions become available. These are generic job descriptions. The roles and structures of communications teams will vary depending on the campaign. Applications submitted through this link are only for positions working directly on gubernatorial campaigns — not for any positions with the DGA in Washington, DC. This posting will be taken down when campaigns are no longer searching for candidates. The DGA recognizes that its continued success requires a staff of hardworking, intelligent people from diverse backgrounds, and seeks the same for gubernatorial campaigns. The DGA is committed to ensuring equal opportunity employment regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, age, disability, or veteran status. The DGA strongly encourages individuals from diverse backgrounds to apply to these positions. The DGA may contact applicants to further discuss these roles, or may just pass their resumes along to campaigns. Senior Level Communications Opportunities: Communications Director positions Qualified candidates demonstrate the ability to build and manage a dynamic communications operation for a statewide candidate in a competitive election cycle. Qualified candidates have experience managing staff and/or consultants and building and implementing a comprehensive communication and messaging strategy, working with a Campaign Manager and other senior staff. Candidates also have a demonstrated record of pitching stories, cultivating relationships with members of the media, and have 3+ years of campaign communications experience working at a statewide level either in an official office or in a campaign capacity, including on-the-record experience. Preferred qualifications, responsibilities, and duties vary by campaign. Mid-Level Communications Opportunities: Deputy Communications Director, Press Secretary, Deputy Press Secretary, and more. Qualified candidates have knowledge of multiple aspects of a communications shop. Qualified candidates should have superb writing skills and significant experience drafting written communications materials, including press releases, op-eds, and social media content. Candidates also have demonstrated experience executing an earned media strategy, including pitching stories or public events, cultivating relationships with reporters, and/or creating and distributing talking points. Ideal candidates have two to three years of work experience in political communications with at least one cycle of experience working at a statewide level either in an official office or in a campaign capacity. Preferred qualifications, responsibilities/duties, and job titles vary by position and campaign. Entry Level Communications Opportunities: Press Assistant to Media Monitor Qualified candidates have a solid work ethic, strong writing skills, an in-depth knowledge of current events, and a desire to help Democratic Governors and candidates win. Candidates have less than six months of full-time campaign communications experience. Preferred qualifications, responsibilities/duties, and job titles vary by position and campaign.
