This role plays a key part in supporting high-quality simulation-based education by ensuring healthcare labs, simulation environments, and related equipment are fully prepared, functional, and aligned with program needs.
The Simulation Operations Specialist supports the day-to-day operations of simulation spaces and foundational healthcare labs through equipment setup, inventory management, technical troubleshooting, and operational coordination. Working closely with faculty, staff, vendors, and internal service areas, this role helps create realistic, safe, and engaging learning environments that support student success and experiential learning.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, problem solving, and working in a dynamic educational environment where no two days are the same. Evening and weekend work may occasionally be required to support instructional activities and events.
What You'll Be Doing:
Healthcare Simulation Operations: Coordinate the day-to-day operations of healthcare simulation and lab environments to support the successful delivery of simulation-based education activities across the School of Health and Wellness. This includes preparing and maintaining low, moderate, and high-fidelity simulation environments, ensuring spaces are organized, functional, and reflective of real-world clinical settings.
Working closely with faculty and program teams, the Simulation Operations Specialist ensures required supplies, equipment, and learning materials are available and properly set up for instructional activities. This role is also responsible for maintaining simulation equipment and operational readiness through routine inspections, testing, calibration, and troubleshooting.
The incumbent oversees inventory management processes by monitoring supply levels, organizing storage areas, ordering materials, and maintaining accurate records of equipment and supplies. In addition, the role supports the safe handling, storage, and disposition of chemicals and hazardous materials in accordance with safety and compliance standards while ensuring all simulation spaces remain clean, safe, and learner ready.
Technical and Operational Support: Provide technical and operational support for simulation-based learning activities, equipment, and related technologies. Assists with preparing and integrating simulation trainers, virtual reality tools, computers, media equipment, and associated technologies to ensure reliable and effective operation during learning activities. This includes troubleshooting technical issues, responding to urgent operational concerns, and coordinating with ITS, vendors, and internal service areas to maintain optimally functioning systems and infrastructure.
The role also supports faculty, staff, and other users by assisting with orientations, equipment use, and operational guidance related to simulation spaces and technologies. In collaboration with senior team members, the incumbent contributes to equipment maintenance planning, inventory tracking, purchasing support, and operational improvements that enhance the overall learner and instructor experience.
Collaborate with Faculty, Programs, and Service Areas: Build strong working relationships with faculty, scheduling teams, leadership, and internal partners to support the evolving operational needs of simulation-based education. The Simulation Operations Specialist participates in planning discussions and works collaboratively to coordinate space usage, prepare for scheduled activities, and resolve time-sensitive operational or inventory challenges that may arise.
This role also contributes to broader simulation initiatives by supporting tours, training sessions, accreditation activities, research projects, and special events involving internal and external stakeholders. The incumbent demonstrates professionalism, adaptability, and strong communication skills while working with diverse teams and supporting a collaborative, learner-focused environment.
