Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, the Contract Chemotherapy/Infusion RN maintains accountability for coordinating and delivering safe, effective, and patient-centered care.</p>\n<p>The RN provides care to individuals, families, and groups in accordance with the standards and ethical principles established by the <strong>American Nurses Association (ANA)</strong> and the <strong>Oncology Nursing Society (ONS)</strong>. Contractor nurses are assigned based on patient care needs and individual experience.</p>\n<h2>Primary Responsibilities</h2>\n<h2>Duties and Responsibilities</h2>\n<h3>Assessment & Clinical Care</h3>\n<ul>\n <li><p>Identify and assess <strong>physiological, psychological, social, and environmental factors</strong> affecting patients undergoing chemotherapy and infusion therapy.</p></li>\n <li><p>Demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate to the care of adult and geriatric patients across all stages of treatment.</p></li>\n <li><p>Assess, monitor, and treat patient responses to <strong>antineoplastic agents, immunotherapy, and infusion therapies</strong>.</p></li>\n <li><p>Recognize and respond effectively to <strong>medical emergencies</strong>, infusion or transfusion reactions, and proactively intervene to prevent complications.</p></li>\n</ul>\n<h3>Medication & Treatment Administration</h3>\n<ul>\n <li><p>Administer, monitor, document, and evaluate chemotherapy, biotherapy, immunotherapy, blood products, iron infusions, antibiotics, IV fluids, and other prescribed treatments in accordance with <strong>ONS guidelines</strong> and medical center policies.</p></li>\n <li><p>Perform venipuncture and manage vascular access devices including <strong>Port-A-Cath, PASport implanted devices, and PICC lines</strong>.</p></li>\n <li><p>Safely manage chemotherapy spills and adhere to hazardous drug handling protocols.</p></li>\n <li><p>Perform 12-lead electrocardiographic monitoring and interpret relevant laboratory values.</p></li>\n</ul>\n<h3>Advanced Nursing Skills</h3>\n<ul>\n <li><p>Provide <strong>Basic Life Support (BLS)</strong>, airway management, and appropriate use of <strong>AED</strong> when indicated.</p></li>\n <li><p>Perform tracheostomy care, gastrostomy/PEG tube care, urinary catheterization (indwelling and intermittent), blood glucose testing, and other diagnostic or therapeutic procedures as required.</p></li>\n <li><p>Administer high-alert medications and oral or IV antineoplastic and immunotherapy agents as prescribed.</p></li>\n</ul>\n<h3>Documentation & Communication</h3>\n<ul>\n <li><p>Review electronic and/or paper medical records for provider orders and treatment protocols.</p></li>\n <li><p>Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes using approved <strong>VA forms and computerized systems</strong>.</p></li>\n <li><p>Promptly notify providers of significant changes in patient condition or other pertinent clinical information.</p></li>\n</ul>\n<h3>Patient Education & Care Coordination</h3>\n<ul>\n <li><p>Develop and implement <strong>individualized patient education and teaching plans</strong> based on assessed needs.</p></li>\n <li><p>Address patient concerns, answer questions, and provide education regarding treatment plans, side effects, and self-care strategies.</p></li>\n <li><p>Coordinate care and refer patients to other disciplines as appropriate, including nutrition, social work, and specialty services.</p></li>\n <li><p>Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to influence positive patient outcomes across the continuum of care.</p></li>\n</ul>\n<h3>Team & Operational Responsibilities</h3>\n<ul>\n <li><p>Work collaboratively with the Chemotherapy & Infusion team and participate in interdisciplinary meetings.</p></li>\n <li><p>Maintain responsibility for providing clinical coverage to the Chemotherapy & Infusion Center.</p></li>\n <li><p>Practice in adherence to professional nursing standards, ethical principles, and facility policies.</p></li>\n</ul>\n<h3>Special Assignments</h3>\n<ul>\n <li><p>May be required to care for <strong>COVID-19 positive patients</strong> and <strong>Patients Under Investigation (PUI)</strong> in the Chemotherapy/Infusion Clinic setting.</p></li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Minimum Qualifications</h2>\n<h2>Qualifications</h2>\n<h3>Required</h3>\n<ul>\n <li><p>Active, unrestricted <strong>Registered Nurse (RN)</strong> license in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.</p></li>\n <li><strong>Must have Assiocates in Nursing; BSN in Nursing is preffered</strong></li>\n <li><strong>Must be ONC RN Certified </strong></li>\n <li><p>Demonstrated experience in chemotherapy, infusion, oncology, or hematology nursing.</p></li>\n <li><p>Ability to work independently and manage complex patient care in a fast-paced clinical environment.</p></li>\n <li><p>Strong assessment, critical thinking, and emergency response skills.</p></li>\n</ul>\n<h2>About Aptive</h2>\n<p>Arrow ARC supports Veterans Health Administration facilities and offices across the U.S. with health care staffing and program support via the 10-year Integrated Critical Staffing Program (ICSP).
