Job Description Mate, Minor Alliford Bay The Opportunity We are seeking a dedicated Mate to serve as the ship’s Navigational Officer, supporting safe and efficient vessel operations while ensuring exceptional passenger service. The Role As a Mate, you will work closely with the Master to oversee deck department activities, including vessel navigation, passenger and vehicle operations, crew management, and safety drills. Key Responsibilities: Standing watch on the bridge; navigating the vessel; checking all navigational equipment to ensure that is it all operational; Analyzing information and taking appropriate action; conveying vessel clearance procedures to the Master. Supervising the loading and discharge of vehicles and foot passengers, securing the vessel for traffic movement, positioning ramps, maintaining trim and drafts, conducting dangerous cargo inspections, and assisting passengers with special needs. Planning, directing, and organizing crew into watches; delegating vessel duties; conducting crew inspections; providing training; and handling disciplinary matters. Performing administrative duties including ordering and managing deck stores, ensuring vessel security, coordinating repair and maintenance of deck areas and equipment, investigating accidents, maintaining refit lists, and completing employee time sheets, mate’s logs, and various reports. Liaising with internal departments and external stakeholders; addressing passenger complaints. Leading and training crew in fire, safety, and boat drills; and responding effectively to emergency situations. This position requires a valid Chief Mate 500 GT Domestic certificate or higher and a valid Seafarer’s Medical Certificate. Join us!
