    "description": "<h2>Overview</h2>\n<p>The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for the performance of basic assigned Laboratory tasks.</p>\n<h2>Responsibilities</h2>\n<p>Performs specific duties in one or more of the following areas:</p>\n<p>Collects blood by performing venipunctures and/or capillary punctures, and other patients' specimens.</p>\n<p>Performs physical part of urinalysis.</p>\n<p>Records specimens and performs record keeping pertaining to the job.</p>\n<p>Prepare media.</p>\n<p>Inoculates bacteriology specimens.</p>\n<p>Prepares parasitology specimens.</p>\n<p>Prepares blood specimens for examination.</p>\n<p>Prepares equipment and glassware for special tests, if applicable.</p>\n<p>May cut pathological specimens and prepare for physician review, if applicable.</p>\n<p>May stain and coverslip slides, if applicable.</p>\n<p>May perform EKG's, EEG's and Holter monitor hookups as required.</p>\n<p>May wash glassware and pipettes as required.</p>\n<p>Answers telephone and delivers reports to nurses' stations.</p>\n<p>May assist with autopsies, where applicable.</p>\n<p>May be assigned to one specific area of the Pathology/Clinical Laboratory to provide technical assistance as required.</p>\n<p>Assists in keeping supplies at stock level.</p>\n<p>Completes daily log sheets.</p>\n<p>Performs other related duties as assigned.</p>\n<h2>Qualifications</h2>\n<p>High School Diploma or GED equivalent; some science classes desirable; and taken and passed a phlebotomy training program within the last five (5) years.</p>\n<p>One year of prior acceptable experience in laboratory technique, covering at least fifty percent of the clinical duties which will be required in the job; OR</p>\n<p>Nine semester hours of laboratory related college science courses from an accredited college/university, or successful completion of a medical assistant program of at least 9 months; OR</p>\n<p>Satisfactory completion of at least fourteen weeks of a basic course in laboratory technique offered by one of the branches of the Armed Forces with at least six months of experience in general laboratory work; OR</p>\n<p>Satisfactory completion of an approved CNA or LPN curriculum, within the last four years; OR</p>\n<p>Three (3) months orientation will be required to determine proficiency of performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.</p>",
