Position: Auxiliary Access & Daytime Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) Worker Reports to: Clinic and Access Coordinator Salary/Benefits: Access shifts - JJEP Grid 11 – Step 1: Salary $27.54 per hour SART only shifts -  Paid $1 per hour on-call (pager). Paid $27.54 – when called to provide phone support (minimum 2 hours compensation) or in-person support (minimum 4 hours compensation). Hours: This is an auxiliary position with no regular hours. Auxiliary workers cover sick days, vacations, leaves of absence or other temporary backfill. Primary shifts during weekdays (9am-5pm), but over-night (5pm-9am) or weekend coverage may be needed for SART only. Please note that this is a Bona fide position, and is open to Women, Trans, Two-Spirit and Gender Diverse applicants. Position Summary: Auxiliary Access Line position provides support and information to all contacts on VSAC Access Line and email. The Worker assess’ contacts for VSAC services including Sexual Assault Response Team (all genders), counselling programs for all women, trans, two-spirit and gender diverse persons who are survivors of sexualized violence and their supporters (all genders), and victim service program for all women, trans, two-spirit and gender diverse persons who are survivors of sexualized violence. The Worker also provides referrals to other community resources where appropriate. This position includes data management and file creation for client files. Daytime SART position is responsible for monitoring the Sexual Assault Response Team pager and providing support, information and accompaniment to survivors (all genders) of recent sexual assault and their supporters. This position provides phone and in-person support to recent survivors of sexual assault at the hospital or VSAC clinic or police stations. VSAC is committed to employment equity. If you have questions about the COVID policy please email [email protected] Job Responsibilities: Under direction from the Clinic and Access Coordinator, the Access & SART Worker is responsible for the following: - Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) coverage primarily during business hours, with some evening and weekend coverage when needed Provide immediate support and response at the Victoria Sexual Assault Centre’s Clinic, the Victoria General Hospital and/or a police station to recent survivors (all genders, 13+ years) of sexual assault Liaise and consult with the Vancouver Island Crisis Line, Forensic Nurse Examiners (FNE), hospital staff, other professionals, Victim Service Workers, and the police (if involved) Provide information on medical options and options for reporting to the police Provides immediate phone support and information to callers who have been affected by sexualized assault in the last thirty days. Provides specific information regarding VSAC services and follow-up information. Maintains a supply of paperwork and resources needed for the position. Updates Access Worker or Clinic Coordinator on responses and submits contact paperwork in a timely manner. - Access coverage during business hours Provides immediate support and information to contacts to Access phone line or Access email and in-person contacts who have been affected by sexualized abuse and sexualized assault. Updates clients about their status on waitlists Provides specific information regarding VSAC services Conducts initial screening and assessment for people wanting to access services Provides information and registers participants for services, updating waitlists, and database information Makes internal file referrals to victim services and counsellors Makes external referrals to appropriate community resources; maintains up-to-date knowledge of these resources and may assist in updating community information as required Maintains volunteer pager and paperwork including checking for completed paperwork (SART and phone contacts). Ensures drop-off and pick-up of volunteer pager. - File Management Creates and updates client records in database and creates client file documentation Maintains up-to-date information in contact database (all contacts to Access Line or email) Updates information received from Counsellors and Victim Services in client database Updates other spreadsheets as required - Liaise with Internal and External Professionals Informs Coordinator of Volunteers of information relevant to volunteers, or about volunteers. Updates Access & Clinic Coordinator, regarding contact issues or other relevant information about the program and informs the Direct Client Services Manager as needed. Liaise with community professionals regarding resources and services Assists with debriefing and support to volunteers as available Maintains a professional approach to liaising with other staff, the public or with other significant community agencies and institutions. - Current Information on Trends and Resources Maintains awareness of current issues and trends in the field of sexualized violence This may include an awareness of local trends or news regarding issues around sexualized violence in local community that have an impact on new and current clients Maintains awareness of diversity issues, in order to appropriately identify and respond to the needs of clients, staff and volunteers - Includes awareness of cultural safety and barriers to support for marginalized folks - Other duties as directed by the Clinic and Access Coordinator - Longer Term Back-fill Additional Duties If back-filling the permanent Access Worker for several shifts, additional duties may be required, including: Access clerical duties, including management of statistics, contact summaries and other similar records May monitor/tally/enter data for statistical analysis at the direction of the Clinic and Access Coordinator Updates monthly wait times Records group attendance in database Disseminates information on Access & SART scheduling with community partners Liaise with Direct Client Service staff to receive statistics in timely manner Supports Clinic Coordinator and Forensic Nurse Examiners with clinic upkeep as needed Attends the Crisis Team Meeting to make internal file assignments - Participates constructively as a member of the staff team. - Ensures work reflects the mission, beliefs, values and goals of VSAC. Qualifications Education/Experience: The position requires: Sexual Assault Response Team training and experience is essential Knowledge of sexualized assault/abuse, crisis line training and/or experience in the field In-depth knowledge and demonstrated understanding of the issues surrounding sexualized violence Basic knowledge of legal issues for survivors of sexualized violence. Experience using database and spreadsheets Job Skills and Abilities: The position requires: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to multi-task with flexibility to adapt in unpredictable situations Demonstrated ability to screen clients for service Demonstrated crisis support skills Strong problem-solving, decision making, critical thinking and diplomacy skills with strong boundaries and self-awareness Knowledge of community resources, including Ministry for Children and Family Development Proficient use of word processing programs, an ability to work with databases and spreadsheets.
