Description

Job purpose The Recreation Services Assistant supports Zionsville Parks and Recreation through concession sales, recreation-based programming, special events, community outreach, and other duties as assigned. Recreation Services Assistants may work with all age groups in the community and job tasks may highlight food handling and sales, outdoor recreation, community outreach or event support. Duties and responsibilities Provides quality customer service and sales at the Mulberry Fields Concession Stand. Assists with outdoor recreation programs within the Zionsville Parks and at off-site locations that serve to enhance the Zionsville Parks and Recreation mission. Assists with community outreach initiatives with the Department’s Creekstomper, mobile recreation vehicle which includes programming, set-up, and supervision, clean-up, inventory, evaluation, and follow-up. Assists in maintaining and prepping equipment and program/event materials. Demonstrated organizational skills including verbal communication, problem solving, and conflict management. Keeps direct supervisor promptly informed of key/significant issues or concerns. Carries out duties and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner to maintain a safe work environment and surrounding area for oneself, co-workers and public. Performs light maintenance and cleaning functions. Performs related duties as assigned or apparent. Qualifications Must be at least 16 years old and possess a valid driver's license and personal transportation. Must have a strong interest in outdoor recreation, customer service, events, or related discipline. Enthusiastic, outgoing, patient, and flexible when working with children and adults. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including employees and the public. Ability to speak and write clearly, concisely, and persuasively using correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation with ability to communicate one-on-one or in group settings. Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and organization. Ability to work cooperatively with others. Ability to perform with considerable independence and initiative. Current first aid/CPR certification or ability to be certified Regular and predictable attendances is expected and required. All employees must be prepared to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends and/or holidays as required. Environmental Conditions and Safety Concerns Incumbent performs a majority of duties outdoors and in a vehicle, and is frequently exposed to, normal hazards associated with maintaining rights-of-way, such as machinery, traffic, noise, grease, dirt, dust, vehicle fumes, blood borne pathogens and other infectious materials, extreme temperatures and inclement weather. Safety precautions must be followed at all times to avoid injury to self and others. Working conditions The position will require weekend work, some evening hours This position requires the ability to work outdoors in a variety of natural terrains and weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme heat or cold, snow, sleet, ice, wind. Physical requirements While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to walk, sit, talk, hear, finger dexterity, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms and bend over. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Direct reports None
