This position provides support to Veterinarians, as needed. This role supports both shelter and public patients.<br><br>Full-time, Non-Exempt<br><br>Key Responsibilities:<ul><li>Medical Care Assist veterinarians in examinations, surgeries, and medical procedures</li><li>Administer medications, vaccinations, and treatments as prescribed</li><li>Perform diagnostic tests (e.g., blood work, x-rays) and prepare samples for laboratory analysis</li><li>Monitor the health and behavior of animals, reporting any changes or concerns to the Veterinarian</li><li>Change animal bandages, bedding, and kennel materials</li><li>Surgical Assistance - Prepare animals and surgical equipment for procedures.</li><li>Perform anesthesia protocols, including pre-meds, induction, monitoring and post-op</li><li>Provide care for animals after procedures by monitoring vitals and providing heat support</li><li>Ensure all surgical instruments and areas are cleaned and sterilized&#8203;</li><li>Record Keeping - Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for all shelter and community animals</li><li>Document treatments, procedures, and observations in accordance with shelter policies</li><li>Work closely with Medical Administrator&#160;to maintain inventory and controlled drug log</li><li>Client Support - Educate potential adopters and foster caregivers on proper animal care and medical needs</li><li>Provide post-operative care instructions and medication administration guidance &#160; &#160;&#160;</li><li>Perform client callbacks as needed &#8203;</li><li>Shelter Support - Assist in the medical intake and evaluation of new animals</li><li>Participate in community outreach and education programs</li><li>Other duties as assigned</li></ul>Qualifications &amp; Requirements:<ul><li>Must be a Licensed Veterinary Technician in New York State</li><li>2-3 years of experience in a Veterinary or Shelter Clinic preferred</li><li>2-3 years of High Quality-High Volume Spay Neuter experience preferred</li><li>Ability to compassionately and kindly handle frightened or aggressive companion animals&#160;</li><li>Flexible schedule, ability to rotate &#8216;on call&#8217; weekends to assist with emergencies and shelter patients &#160; &#160;</li><li>Excellent record keeping and attention to detail</li><li>Ability to function and focus in a demanding and fast-paced environment</li><li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills</li><li>Collaborative team working style</li><li>Demonstrate an attitude of consideration and courtesy to members of the public, co-workers, and volunteers&#160;</li><li>Commitment to mission, vision, and values of the&#160;DCSPCA</li></ul>Location: Hyde Park, NY<br><br>Schedule: Our shelter operates from 8 AM to 5 PM, seven days a week (including holidays) to ensure animals receive daily care.
