ABOUT WILLIAMS LAKE FIRST NATION (WLFN) The Williams Lake First Nation (WLFN), or the T’exelcemc (people of WLFN) have belonged to the Secwepemc (or Shuswap) Nation for over 6500 years. Today, the WLFN community includes a growing population of over 800 registered members who live on reserve in Sugar Cane, in nearby Williams Lake, BC, and across the globe. We are Culturally Centered, Future Focused. WLFN provides staff with an excellent benefits package, RSP matching up to 8%, 3 weeks' vacation upon completion of probationary period, and many other benefits. POSITION As part of the Education team, the Indigenous Education Enhancement Worker (IEEW) has an independent self- direct approach as a role model, mentor and liaison with an open mindset and recognizes boundaries. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to recognize priorities with organizational professionalism. Multi-tasks with a creative connection of all cultural diversity. Operates as part of a team and respecting the Indigenous culture. This position will align with the grade 7 to 12 WLFN students to enhance and facilitate maturing and intermediate student success and career planning. This role walks alongside the youth, allowing them to be their authentic self and works closely with EAWs, school counselors, teachers and ISW's at the schools. This position reports to the Education Coordinator. Employment Type Permanent part-time, 25 hours per week, Monday-Friday 8:30am-2:00pm with half hour unpaid lunch. Probation Period 3 months from the date of hire. Education Required High School Diploma – GED. Certificate or Diploma in Human Services or related field. Prefer minimum of 2 years post-secondary training in Psychology, Youth, Family and Community Studies, Ethnic Indigenous Studies or Indigenous Education. Experience Required Minimum of 6 months of Youth and Family Worker experience or equivalent working with or providing support for Indigenous youth/parents/guardians and community. Certificate Training in Office Administration (Word/Excel etc.) . Valid Class 5 BC driver's license . Past educational instruction or teaching experience would be considered an asset. Level one First Aid and Emergency Youth First Aid. Food Safe. Overtime Status Non-exempt. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES School outreach daily and maintains contact with student(s), parent(s), teacher(s), Principal(s), and Schools/ Institutes. Assist students to foster positive relationships with their teachers, families, and peers. Relays important information to the Education Coordinator regarding the student to and from the home and school. Monitors and tracks in MyEd/CIMS online programs (e.g. grades, attendance, additional support needs). Facilitate a learning climate that is open and non-threatening. Facilitate a learning climate to solve problems with critical thinking skills. Serve as a career coach, and role model with a flexible mindset in all situations. One on one support and gather assignments with students who are not reaching grade level or need to assist in reaching completion. Maintain student intakes, career profile records of personal goals, courses each semester of each student while using positive techniques to enhance learning, motivate and build confidence in students' performance. Daily check ins and bi-weekly one-on-one meetings with the Education Coordinator on students' progress, assignment completion, and difficulties that may relate to students' academics- or personal struggles that may need other supported resources. Student transportation may be required when needed. Attend School Based Team and Individualize Education Plans Meetings. Confidentiality must be respected by the IEEW including information of the student and families involved. Collaborate respectful communication with Students/ Community, SD#27, FN School, and Independent Schools, Supports the mission, vision, and values of Williams Lake First Nation. Contributes to the WLFN's ongoing success by accomplishing other duties as required or assigned. SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to communicate effectively and collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders. Ability to think critically, communicate to Education Coordinator as a priority and act logically to evaluate situations, solve problems and make decisions. Ability to take directions and work independently. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to apply sound judgment and make decisions within the area, often on short notice. Ability to prioritize, multi-task and organize work effectively and under pressure. Understand the Local Education Agreements framework for each school. Excellent knowledge of technical documentation and best practices. Exceptional familiarity with technology and remote desktop applications (MS Teams, Zoom, Outlook, etc.) Preference will be given to those of Aboriginal Ancestry - per Section 16(1) of the Canadian Human Rights Act.
