Description Job Objective: Under direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, and in accordance with standard departmental procedures, prepare medications for patient use and provide friendly service, treating each patient kindly, with dignity and respect. Participate in a Pharmacy Technician on-the-job training regimen and achieve a national certification within 13 months. Responsibilities and Essential Duties: • Perform duties assigned by a licensed pharmacist. Areas of work are checked routinely for maintenance of quality control. Work is conducted in accordance with generally accepted standards of practice, following departmental procedures and policies and applicable laws. • Participate in on-the-job Pharmacy Technician training under the supervision of the Pharmacist-in-Charge, including completing online coursework and testing. • Read and interpret prescriptions received in pharmacy and transcribe same onto pharmacy computer medication profile, work verified by a licensed pharmacist. • Prepare in accordance with standards of pharmacy practice, reconstitution of medications under direct pharmacist supervision. • Prepare in accordance with pharmacy law and standards of pharmacy practice, patient prescriptions to be dispensed after pharmacist approval. • Attend and participate in department meetings to exchange ideas in order to achieve the goals of the department. • Check and remove the outdated medications on a routine basis to ensure that no outdated medications are in stock. Keep records appropriately. • Assist pharmacist with billing by using correct and appropriate reason codes and dates for charging and crediting. • Assist with placing orders, checking in orders, putting orders away, and filing associated paperwork. • Attend and participate in Pharmacy Committee meetings as required. • Maintain a clean and orderly workspace. • Maintain competency in caring for patients of all age groups and developmental stages. • Interact with patients and customers in a professional way, greeting each customer and providing polite and friendly service. • Perform other duties as requested. • Safeguard patient data by maintaining HIPAA compliance and disposing of protected health information properly. • If unfamiliar with pharmacy procedure or best practice, notify the pharmacist on duty and request training. Patient Satisfaction: • Assist patients, family members, or other clients with concern and empathy; respect their confidentiality and privacy; and communicate with them in a courteous and respectful manner. • Answer and refer telephone calls or other inquires to ensure accurate and timely communications. • Identify yourself in a pleasant and positive manner. • Take responsibility for helping the caller. Teamwork: • Assist in the orientation/training of new Team Members. • Consistently work in a positive and cooperative manner with fellow Team Members. • Assist other Team Members in the performance of their assignments. • Seek out opportunities to help rather than waiting to be asked. • Consider the impact of your actions on Team Members throughout the Organization. • Recognize the need for variations in staffing and volunteer to fill open shifts when possible. • Communicate effectively with clinic staff to ensure seamless patient care. • Demonstrate flexibility to perform duties wherever volume deems it necessary within the organization. • Assist in keeping the pharmacy clean and neat. Problem Solving: • Demonstrate sound judgment by taking appropriate actions regarding questionable findings or concerns. • Investigate and follow through on unusual orders or requests for service or information. • Follow proper reporting procedures for actual or potential accidents and/or incidents so follow-up and/or prevention can occur. • Record/report the need for service maintenance or repair of equipment and remove any faulty equipment from service. • Consistently evaluate work and determine if further steps are needed to meet patient expectations. • Take the initiative to do or redo inadequate or incomplete work, even if it is not yours. • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Productivity/ Efficiency: • Consistently demonstrate the ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs, such as reprioritizing work as necessary. • Minimize non-productive time and fill slow periods with activities that will enable you to prepare to meet patient needs in the future (education, organizing, housekeeping, assisting others). When in doubt, ask the pharmacist on duty for additional assignments. • Organize job functions and work areas to be able to effectively complete varied assignments within established time frames. • Consistently demonstrate the ability to take the initiative to make decisions/choices without direct supervision. Adherence to Departmental Policies: • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of all policies and procedures and the ability to reference them from appropriate books and manuals. • Comply with CCWV's infection control policies and procedures, including the Bloodborne Pathogens Standard, to ensure a safe working environment for self and others. • Maintain password security: Keep your login information and passwords private. Do not share this information with patients or coworkers. If you suspect that your login or password is not secure, notify the pharmacist on duty and change the password immediately.
