    "description": "<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Title</span>: Registered Practical Nurse</p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Reports</span> <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">to</span>: Manager, Primary Care</p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Position Type:</span> Permanent, Full-Time 35 hr/week</p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Salary:</span> $25.73-$30.27/hour</p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Vacancy Status:</span> Existing Vacancy</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Position Summary</span></span></p>\n<p>As a key member of the multi-disciplinary primary health care team, the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) provides high-quality, client-centered care within a general clinic setting. The RPN supports clinical operations through routine nursing care, health education, and coordination with other care providers to meet the needs of a diverse patient population, including newcomers to the community</p>\n<p>In addition to clinical responsibilities, the RPN may also contribute to initiatives that support patient access to preventive health services, including routine health maintenance and screening as appropriate.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Key Responsibilities</span></span> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Clinical Nursing</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Provide primary health care to clients of the centre as guided by the College of Nurses of Ontario</li>\n<li>Provide telephone triage and client follow-up as needed</li>\n<li>Perform nursing process through assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention and evaluation</li>\n<li>Provide nursing support to providers in selected procedures when needed</li>\n<li>Provide basic laboratory and phlebotomy procedures and treatment services (e.g., urine tests, glucometer readings, dressings, injections, immunizations, allergy treatments, etc.)</li>\n<li>Provide client screening and health education within scope of practice</li>\n<li>Support newcomer clients with orientation to preventive health services (e.g., immunizations, screenings).</li>\n<li>Work with other staff to support a successful and seamless client experience</li>\n<li>Order and maintain medical supplies, laboratory supplies and immunizations as needed</li>\n<li>Contribute to and support quality improvement initiatives</li>\n<li>Ensure infection control and occupational health and safety standards are followed in practice</li>\n<li>Other duties as assigned within RPN scope of practice</li>\n<li>Distribute and stock harm reduction supplies, including assembly of kits, and educate people about the use of supplies</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Administrative Duties</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Responsible for ordering and maintaining medical, program or laboratory supplies, including supplies for the harm reduction program</li>\n<li>Participate in meetings and other administrative activities which support the overall functioning of the team.</li>\n<li>Participates in quality improvement projects and initiatives ie childhood immunization audits, etc.</li>\n<li>Participate in chart reviews and case conferences</li>\n<li>Contribute to chart documentation (including Electronic Health Records), by documenting symptoms and conditions, nursing interventions and referrals and recommendations for ongoing treatment</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Support Client Needs</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Works during both regular and extended hours in locations identified by KCHC</li>\n<li>On occasion, performing other temporary duties may be required</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Organizational Responsibilities</span></span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Comply with all relevant legislation and KCHC policies, including privacy laws</li>\n<li>Commits to acquiring an understanding of the importance of trauma responsiveness and the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)  </li>\n<li>Commits to demonstrating an ongoing commitment to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Indigenization and Accessibility (EDIIA) by representing the diverse nature of our communities, promoting and practicing inclusion</li>\n<li>Supports consistent application and development of KCHC policies and procedures</li>\n<li>Supports KCHC’s student and volunteer placement programs</li>\n<li>Promotes awareness of and participation in KCHC activities</li>\n<li>Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and quality improvement</li>\n<li>On occasion, perform other temporary duties as required</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Basic Education and Experience Requirements</span></span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Registered Practical Nurse, in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario</li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Three plus years nursing experience in a community setting or combination of community and hospital/public health settings; experience in primary care settings an asset; demonstrated ability to work under Medical Directives. </li>\n<li>Experience and understanding of marginalized communities and health needs</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Knowledge, Skills and Abilities</span></span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>STOP smoking cessation training an asset.</li>\n<li>Experience in program development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, an asset</li>\n<li>Experience with Transgender care (asset).Proficiency in the use of computers and relevant software applications including Electronic Health Records (e.g., PS Suite)</li>\n<li>Excellent interpersonal skills, and a commitment to being a “team player” in an interdisciplinary team setting</li>\n<li>Excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience facilitating groups an asset.</li>\n<li>Excellent organizational skills and above average attention to detail.</li>\n<li>Valid Driver’s License, valid insurance coverage, and access to vehicle</li>\n<li>Ability to work flexible hours, occasional evening or weekend shifts an asset,</li>\n<li>Ability to meet the physical demands of the position</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Other Requirements</span></span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Current certificate in CPR and First Aid</li>\n<li>Current and satisfactory Criminal and Vulnerable Persons Check</li>\n<li>French language is an asset</li>\n<li>Knowledge of Trauma Informed Care is an asset</li>\n<li>Knowledge of harm reduction supplies and working with equity seeking clients is an asset.</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>As a registered professional, to abide by and be accountable to the ethics and standards set out by the relevant regulatory body of the profession.
