Description

General Investigator Section (GIS) constables are members of a specialized uniform team that conducts detailed risk-based and evidence focused investigations. The Missing Person/Intimate Partner Violence Coordinator is primarily responsible for monitoring and conducting reviews of all non-foul play missing person investigations and all intimate partner violence investigations.  The Missing Person/Intimate Partner Violence Coordinator is a uniform position that may also be deployed to emergencies, crime scenes and demonstrations/protests to bolster the organization’s response to in-progress incidents. The Coordinator Constable position requires a proven investigator with a desire to mentor others and a demonstrated solid investigation skillset. Job Description : Primarily a uniform position, working rotational  11.43 hour  shifts which follow a 4-5-5 shifting model (dayshifts 5:35 to 17:00) May require flexibility in working hours as well as the potential for call out work Monitor, review, investigate and liaise with  VicPD  and external partner missing person investigators Flag records and  monitor  chronic missing persons Conduct secondary reviews and manage  VicPD's  intimate partner violence (IPV) investigations.  Identify  investigative lapses and/or assign tasks where required or appropriate Provide mentorship, coaching and training to members investigating incidents of IPV and Missing Persons Manage and  facilitate  investigations; ensure standards for interviews, safety  planning and investigation of IPV incidents meet or exceed department standards Take conduct of investigations where significant risk or other aggravating factors are  identified Build and  maintain relationships with community partners including the Regional Domestic Violence Unit (RDVU), Crown Counsel, MCFD, Community Corrections, Victim Services, BC Missing Person Centre, NCMPUR, Government, Vital Statistics & Coroner Assist GIS investigations and complete threat assessments as directed by the GIS NCO Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated experience investigating IPV and Missing Person files with demonstrated experienced conducting risk assessment, safety planning for victims and children and management of offenders released into the community Advanced knowledge of BC Missing Person and Domestic Violence investigation standards, procedures and best practices Demonstrated experience working with external stakeholders including Crown Counsel, Community Corrections, Victim Services, RDVU, BC Missing Person Centre, Coroner and MCFD Must have the ability to quickly analyze key elements of a situation or problem in high risk IPV and missing person cases, to identify and evaluate possible courses of action and to reach logical conclusions Must have the ability to assimilate and apply new information Must have the ability to identify, gather, and recall relevant facts and details about an incident, situation, or problem Must be a self-starter and have the ability to work unsupervised Advanced Risk Management and Threat Assessment training, including demonstrated experience in using the BC Summary of Intimate Partner Violence Risk Factors (SIPVR), B-Safer, SARA and SAM assessment tools Demonstrated ability to work well as part of a team Demonstrated ability conducting interviews, interrogations Demonstrated experience preparing and reviewing judicial authorizations Demonstrated ability building connections with and interacting with marginalized people Foundational knowledge of Major Case Management principles and their application The successful candidate will be subject to an annual psychological assessment as per departmental policy.
