POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, as leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
The Lead Preschool Teacher p rovides direct supervision to a group of children in the Enrichment Program. Creates positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers. Promotes and supports the potential of all children in program and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall preschool experience.
Successful candidate will demonstrate the following: experience working with young children, familiarity with the State of Maine Early Childhood Learning Guidelines, Creative Curriculum, and NAEYC Accreditation Standards, current CPR/First Aid certification, excellent oral and written communication skills, and a commitment to the field of early care and education.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Supervises a group of children.
Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
Nurtures children through purposeful programing; creates lesson plans that are intended to achieve program goals and outcomes. Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of children and engages in and attends IEP meetings.
Attends staff meetings and trainings.
Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or a Bachelor’s Degree in a field related to ECE.
Active Maine DOE Early Childhood Teacher (Endorsement 081) OR Early Elementary Endorsement (Endorsement 029).
3. Previous experience working with children in a preschool setting.
4. At least 18 years of age.
CPR, first aid, AED certifications, and child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
