Te Mahi | About the Role
This is a full-time, permanent role (40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8.30 am–5.00 pm), with occasional weekend work and regional travel as required.
In this role, you will lead, mentor, and motivate a team of friendly, experienced nurses and caregivers to meet key performance indicators of quality care. You will have a positive attitude and mindset towards service user-directed and holistic care, and be able to identify, plan, and implement improvement-focused actions that meet the individual needs of our clients.
We are looking for an experienced nurse with leadership and management experience, ideally with an interest in working in the community setting.
Location: Auckland (Greenlane) with national responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage day-to-day operations and clinical governance for Community Nursing team(s), ensuring high-quality, safe, service-user focused care across 7 days
Coach and develop staff through induction, competency monitoring, feedback and performance development
Ensure compliance with legislation/standards, robust risk management, and effective complaints/incident and quality systems (including audits and quality plans)
Drive service improvement and growth by supporting new initiatives/contracts and undertaking impact analysis for change
Champion Te Tiriti commitments, culturally safe practice, and Health & Safety/IPC across the service
Providing operational general business and clinical management and leadership to designated team(s)
Approaching the service user’s needs with a strong focus on rehabilitation, would care and therapies in partnership with MDT and family
Undertakes day to day operational management of the designated team(s), giving clear direction and monitoring performance
Maintaining and assessing care, goals, risks, and service needs of the service user in conjunction with MDT and family
Providing clinical report and updates as required
Ensuring compliance with sector standards and legislation
Liaising with family and health professionals in a professional and timely manner
Participating in quality improvement programmes, service audits and evaluations
Undertaking comprehensive impact analysis when managing change or developing new opportunities
Proactively supporting the integration with other clinical services identified for the client in conjunction with Family and Team Manager
The ideal candidate will have:
Minimum 5 years’ post‑registration experience in acute, surgical, or practice nursing, with demonstrated capability in specialist clinical areas relevant to community nursing
Experience in community care, or a strong understanding of community models of care, ideally including familiarity with ACC Community Nursing contracts and service delivery expectations
Strong clinical expertise including acute and chronic wound management (wide product knowledge), and ideally experience in burns management and urinary catheter care (SPC/IDC), with confidence managing complex/serious injury presentations
Current NZ Registered Nurse registration and Annual Practising Certificate (APC)
Strong leadership, mentoring and interpersonal skills
Ability to work under pressure
Excellent organisation and time management skills
Knowledge of Health & Safety at work and Home & Community Support sector standards is preferred
Strong written and oral communication skills
A valid NZ driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle, clean Police clearance, and legal right to work in New Zealand.
