About the Role: The Forestry Technician is a key line-level position responsible for performing maintenance and upkeep of all dirt roads, wildlife food plots, buildings, and structures on PBCI forest properties. The Forestry Technician will also be responsible for the locating and spraying of invasive species such as cogon grass and will assist with the prescribed burning of designated Tribal Forest Lands. The Forestry Technician will perform any other jobs deemed necessary for the upkeep of Tribal Forest Properties. This job description is not an all-inclusive list of the duties and responsibilities of this position. PCI Employees are expected to perform all duties and responsibilities necessary to meet the goals and objectives of applicable programs and departmental objectives, as assigned. This role plays a strong commitment to understanding and embracing the Poarch Creek Indians Values of Perseverance, Opportunity, Accountability, Respect, Culture, and Honesty. Key Responsibilities: Assist with maintaining dirt roads and access areas on Tribal forest properties. Develop, cultivate, and maintain wildlife food plots and feeding areas. Apply herbicides, pesticides, and other treatments to control invasive species, weeds, insects, and plant diseases. Perform general maintenance on buildings, structures, and equipment located on forest properties. Conduct grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming, fertilizing, mulching, and debris removal. Install and maintain fencing, gates, silt fencing, and property signage. Assist with prescribed burns and forest management activities. Identify, locate, and treat invasive plant species. Support forestry, wildlife, and natural resource projects as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned. Core Qualifications:  High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. One (1) year verifiable related employment experience in the landscaping or grounds upkeep field preferred. Must possess a valid state driver’s license and an insurable record according to Tribal insurance guidelines. Ability to work odd and irregular hours, as needed. Must successfully pass the required criminal and character background check. Ability to travel and participate in required training, leadership development, and other events. Ability to perform all duties and responsibilities of this position adequately and successfully. Essential Competencies: Ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment, tractors, mowers, and other machinery used in forestry and grounds maintenance. Self-motivated, reliable, and able to work independently or as part of a team. Strong work ethic with the ability to complete assignments and overcome challenges. Effective communicator who follows policies, procedures, and safety guidelines. Physically capable of performing strenuous outdoor work, including lifting up to 50 pounds, operating equipment, and working in various weather conditions. Takes accountability for performance and maintains a dependable attendance record.
